New FF Map: Asteroid Belt

Post by hrmph »

This is my first attempt at making a map for Final Frontier. This is also my first attempt at making a skybox (it has some small artifacts that I will fix later). It is 16x16. It only has 4 starting positions, but can handle many more for team games (just use the boxes and choose start position). Designed for TvB 3v3 or maybe even 4v4. looks good but I would have made the rocks sharper along the edges... they taper down into the space and it looks a bit odd.

thats prolly about as steep as they could go until the texture went stretch armstrong on him...

:-p..

I think it looks pretty good... though not really my "type" of map..

This is very true. I tried several different heightmaps (over 10) trying to get the effect you talk about smoth and this one looked the best.

Nice to see another FF map that solely uses the skybox for space.
It'd be neat if a map used features to make the underwater part of the asteroids look complete.

There was also a bit of grass around the map.

Thanks guys :-) Unfortunately I didn't notice the grassy bits since I never run spring with 3D trees enabled. I do plan on releasing a V2 sometime in the future. Anyone have any idea why the grass showed up, or how I can fix it?

its cause of the featuremap. You need one even if you dont have features. Make the featuremap black and the grass should be fixed.
Also i would suggest, that you make the asteroids a bit more flat. Often ships fly against them.

Lower gravity would also make battles feel more like in Space (not so low as to have spinning out fighters fly all the way across the map over the enemy's base though).
