Simple Mod Tutorial [Under Construction/Please Contribute]

Post by SinbadEV »

http://taspring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Simple_Mod_Tutorial

I have started a new article in the Wiki (linked above dummy) to help people get started at modding... I'm not the expert on this subject but I think I've made good headway.

One Thing it really needs right now is good cross linking (I didn't hunt down any links at all)...

The idea will be to give people the minimum information to go from 3d - model to moving unit... and then each section will have a link to the wiki articles/websites/fileuniverse files/etc that give the exaustive explaination of that section.

yeah... you want to add a version of the tutorial with 3do in mind... be my guest... I stand by my "3do is old and crappy" statement.

Since you would make a unit with higher poli count then intended back in 1997, 3do has it limits. Go and texter every poli on a 3500 tris model. you would reather learn UV mapping.

note: this statement appearantly isn't always correct. There are people who agree with me that it's a hell load of work, and happily start at it.

I never said it wasn't - the format is (though it's easy for a beginner to work with)

I said the software built specialy for it was perfectly good (and, I might argue better for the task than UpSpring, though I haven't got the very latest version yet)

try not to adress the hole unit making issue..

leave that for the unit making tutorials.. add a link to some good one (like das bruce one) or make separate tutorial on that, focus in the mod making/files/balancing stuff.

that should make it more clear to read aswell.

unit creation and uvmapping in wings 3d

I'm just trying to make a place we can send people when they whine about not being able to get their units to show up in game... your right it would be better to leave out the modelling part... as long as their is a link to a decent tutorial somewhere else.
