HDR is a reasonable improvement, although it's a little hard on my framerate to acctually play with it on... I can't help but feeling the screen lighting changes are a little gimicy though...

Just incase anyone isn't up to date with HL news, HDR means High Dynamic Range, and is used in lighting. What it does is artificially allows the engine to calculate lighting ranges higher then white 255,255,255. This means that light blooms like DRASTICLY more realisitic. It also allows for some fun things like screens that hold an average lighting, so if you look at the sun and then look away everything looks really dark, and if you're in a dark room and run outside your character gets light blinded like in real life.

I mean with it included in the actual story/game, along with the other stuff they cut, it would've been even more awesome.
