I guess I'm just easily excitable

The glowmaps and the teamcolor + reflectivity for that interesting metallic look on the outer spheres is what made me excited.
That's not the final map on this- I have a further set of revisions to make the center sphere much more interesting and make the outer ones look more like functional things, but I haven't gotten there yet.
At any rate, we're almost touching noses with the thing, so it's to be expected it's going to look like what it is- a low-poly object, all dolled up to look more sophisticated than it really is. When you zoom out, it's really hard to tell.
And last but not least... I wouldn't really classify the engine as a raytracer, no. While it does light things from the point source of the sun, the lighting actually has a number of issues that become fairly obvious if you do tests with it. Compared to a raytracer like POV-Ray... no, it's not even close, in terms of accuracy. However, that doesn't stop us from making things of surpassing beauty. I just felt that this was an atmospheric shot, so I decided to share- I'm not going to argue the fine points, because I really don't care anyhow- I just like making kewl art
