Work on a mod uncompressed?

Post by PauloMorfeo »

Can we uncompress a mod and have Spring use it uncompressed? As to ease the editing of the mod.

I already tried uncompressing a mod to Spring/mods/Folder, Spring/mods and just dumping it to the root folder of Spring. Nothing seems to work... What am i doing wrong?

i dont know if that works, but if not, yes that would be a really usefull feature for the next version. When i m working on FF sometimes i need to compress the files 100 times a day :( that sucks

Or 7zip File Manager. Both are free, but with 7zip you can set it to have 2 panels for messing with your archives and files. Its only downfall is that it doesn't have an "extract this file" button on the menu for when you right click on a file.

Oh, and at least if you have windows XP (not sure what other versions of windows spring even works on), it can open at least zip files just like folders.

try izarc. It's really handy because with 2 clicks you can use fast compression. but, meh.

Spring supports using files directly from the folder just like TA did. You should uncompress your stuff to the root of the spring folder for this to work. So you should have <spring folder>\units etc. Make sure you remove all such things before playing online though because they override things in archives. Might be easiest to use a separate install.

Well, i did tried that.
Uncompresses XTA_PE(?) to the root of Spring. Still it wouldn't work. Any idea what could be wrong?

Could it be that it depends on the base content and, since it would be overriding it, Spring isn't able to find the base content?

[edit]
Hmm, i checked if the lobby was finding it. But as far as i've heard, the Lobby doesn't searches the root (or something like that) so, it may as well be that it would work if i started spring.exe instead... Must go try it.
