The small suggestions thread

Hey, I thought this up today, its simply a thread for some small suggestions that people may come up with. If youve thought up somthing that can make spring better, but are to lazy to make an entire thread about it, you can just put it in here. Or mabye your suggestions so short that it would be spam to make a whole topic about it, then you can just post it in here, sorta like an archive or a collection. Post away.
I'll also use this place as my own suggestions thread, Ive already made a topic so why not?

Spectators eye
This can/may be a multi functional feature, sometimes, people dont want spectators in there game, like when your hosting a 16 player game the last thing you need is 5 specs lagging it up. Another thing, 4+1/6 isnt a very descriptive fraction, the + part may confuse soem noobs, they don't know it means specs yet. My suggestion is this, make another column in the lobby,in that column beside each game, place an image of an eye. If specs are allowed in the game (make it an option in hosting), the eye should be regular. If they arent, make the eye red or crossed out. When/if they allow specs, the number of spectators currently participating in the game should be shown above the eye. Would be a nice and original feature IMO.

Popup RGB color selector
Plain red and blue and ect is so boring :P . Besides, if its a big game then some people will have to be the same color. So I propose a small screen pops up when you click on a select color button that has an RGB selector to select your own color. And beside it is a pic of the commander of your selected side(3D and rotatable mabye? would be very cool)just for previewing your color on the unit basicly. Pink FTW! :)

Primary and Secondary colors (and teritary?)
Pretty self explanitory, instead of 1 color for a team how about 2 colors? (primary would show up on minimap). And possibly teritary colors too? Units would have to be supportive of them of course but it may work eventually if the unit makers and scripters work together.

Mute button
Ack, this is greatly needed. Some noob comes on the cilent and decides to start spamming up the place, but there are no mods on. So you can simply right click the player and select mute (or somthing) and voila, no more stupid noob. :P

Helicopters
Would be a very intresting unit. Sorta like a gunship, yet not. If this would be made capable then that would be cool.

Fire at trees
I notice that when you command a unit it is not possible/ extrmely hard to fire at a tree or an ally unit, this should be changed.

More players
Some people have really nice connections I notcice, so the player limit shoudl be changed from a max of 10 players, to like 20 or somthing, if no one ever makes there max that high thats fine. At least they have the option to.

Underground (caves, tunnels, bridges, ect)
If spring could have capability for 3D heightmaps, then maps could have tunnels and bridges and other really cool things like that,

More later as soon as I think of them :) .

Why nto do ti the correct way and post it on mantis so that it'll be seen by the devs? Posting feature requests here isnt taken as seriously sometimes if they're small things, and there are too many requests threads cluttering this forum anyway.

there is a classification for bugs to be "features", personally I would prefer if "feature requests" were discussed in the forums before being posted.

I agree with AF here: put feature request and bug reports on mantis (I don't care if it's before or after discussing on the forum), it's way more easier to keep track of things imho.

There's discussion features built into the mantis as well. Granted they aren't very widely used though.

The thing is; bugs are bugs. There is no two ways about them. They need to be submitted, and acted upon.

Features, on the other hand, are far more subjective. What might seem like a good feature to one person might be horrible to another. Hence posting features here is important, so that the idea can be thoroughly fleshed out, and given a bit of an intellectual thumping to make sure it is sound. Once that happens, then it can be acted upon by the devs.

The bug tracker menu option needs changing to add "/feature requests" tot he end.

That and Community news is broken, updaterss.php just shows a blank page after taking ages to load up, and the front page isnt updated at all.

Exactly what I was thinking when I posted this. :wink: I'll just fill out my suggestions here, get some comments on them, then submit them.

The RGB thing is not possible until every model in the game uses S3O. The 3DO format of texturing simply cannot cope.

Also, I disagree on having multiple choosable colors, if that becomes a feature--one is enough.

I think with regards to unit colour ti would be rpefrably for 3d0's that the nearets colour be chosen instead.

s for S30's I think that my original requests would eb better, as in custom models such as flags and banners, or what other rts's have and have logos and custom insignia.

These would be attacthed to objects in the s30's that had keywords for names such as TEX_INSIGNIA for a texture or, M_BANNER for a custom model. Of course these would all ahve upper limits on filesize and ingame size, and come in 2 maybe 3 varieties (small medium large(what about a krogothe? should it have a bigger flag than a peewee? should it be peewee sized or should it be krogoth sized? but what then when you have a horde of peewees with huge banners obscuring them...))
