Longest terragen render time?

Post by Caydr »

I thought I'd really taken the cake with Altored Earth. It took something like 16 (18?) hours to render. But I've now shattered my previous record with my newest project, which has taken the last 3 days, 8 hours, and 23 minutes (80h23m) to finish.

What are your longest render times? L3DT don't count!

I don't use terragen... I use worldmachine and the longest so far was 1 hour...

But then I go into photoshop for hours of work, my scratch size is 8 gigs with a 3.7 gig psd.

About 5 mins...

... Only kidding, I normaly leave it running over work, and its done when I get back 12 hours later... I think it doesnt realy take that long though, prob just a few hours.

But I only render 6000 x 6000 chunks....

true 'dat. Also, use a smaller Terragen map size to render the map if you can (I'm talking about the 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048 sizes internal to Terragen). If you use a 2048x2048 sized map to do a render, you need your head checked.

If you don't care for super-duper detail in your map, render the image at 1/2 or 3/4 size, and then use photoshop to scale it up to full size, you will save a ridiculous amount of time.
