also: only help->system info is useful. any other info is useless / incomplete.

for the future, please look into / provide springlobby.log.
That would then prevent my own setup (which works ~flawlessly) from working...

the customization is what causes most problems.

I have no problems.

zvero has no 'customization', he downloaded 103 via SL, and nothing worked!

http://i.imgur.com/lf771B4.png doesn't look so. this requires at least springlobby.conf beeing created next to springlobby.exe.

next time ask / look into springlobby.log please.

next springlobby release will set SpringData according to DownloadDir set in springlobby. this will hopefully prevent users from missconfiguring data dirs but removes some flexibility and possible introduces new problems :-|

Datadir is reconfigured. You will not write your maps and games on my ssd.

released springlobby 0.253:

- force SpringData to be set to DownloadDir
- fix irc colors

with some manual work this release should allow portable mode: create a springlobby.conf next to springlobby.exe, then start springlobby and configure DownloadDir to a subdirectory of springlobby. (Not tested yet, sorry)

SpringData is set via env var and config var, so custom settings in springsettings.cfg will be overwritten by DownloadDir from springlobby.

Why does SpringLobby insist on installing the entire Spring engine, games, maps etc to my Documents folder? My C drive space is limited as it is, let alone everything Spring related being installed there. Shouldn't it be Program Files by default? I tried changing it but then it reset back to the default Documents path when restarting SpringLobby.

usually program files aren't writeable by a normal user. You shouldn't work as admin :-)

You're right, I shouldn't, but if any of my other games are examples to go by, the engine/default files should be installed to Program Files, then future assets in a user-dir? Either way, I don't think it should be Documents/My Games/Spring. If anything it should be:

Code: Select all

%USERDIR%/AppData/Roaming/Spring
I think?

If SpringLobby's settings were persistent upon restart it would be a non-issue as I'd just change it. But as is, it persists to the Documents folder which sits in my Google Drive so every spring-thing is currently trying to sync to my Google Drive and it's hurting me

they are. They are maybe not persistent because of the config file not beeing writeable or the configured directory is invalid. Anything useful in springlobby.log after changing it?

@jaz, no it should be in documents/my games/springlobby as per M$ spec.

Which btw, that spec is idiotic. Only M$ is silly enough not to think of something so simple as a username/config dir and tell vendors to use that. Please don't write to appdata. I cri everytiem.

And I cri errytim games get installed to my Documents folder in Google Drive! All my Steam, Origin, UPlay, Battle.net clients/games get installed to my secondary drive because I chose that, but by default the installer prompts to install to C:/Program Files.

You're not understanding... Config files go in my games/<gamename> Spring is an odd duck that uses that location for storing the entire thing. That isn't normal.

Normal is installing to program files and putting configs in my documents.

Then again, chrome used to install itself entirely to appdata (/facepalm google y u do dis?) (not anymore). ZK did this at one point -_-

Thanks
- lazy init of unitsync (faster startup)
what's the downside of this?

EDIT: I joined WorldAtWar_rapid2 and after downloading the latest version of the game it didn't change to synced. I pressed the "reload maps/games" option on the menu and it disconnected from the server. When i reconnected i was synced and able to play. Not sure if it's a one-time issue.
EDIT2: joined a planet annihilation server and it downloaded the game and map and became synced by itself, so it seems fine
