Just a few reason why you might find it horrible:
* font
* color don't fit with the rest
* gray & blue ...
* stuff on the right
* low contrast
* empty space everywhere
* annoying scrolling icons on "Active topics" page indicating that a thread is multi-page
* tiny tiny small icon that shows if there are unread posts in a thread on "Active topics" page (very distracting with above item)
* stuff hidden in dropdown menus
* advanced search once as text link & once as icon link just below
* rendering is broken with opera classic
* even worse layout on smarthphones
PS: posted in Feature Requests cause it is one of the less subforums that allow polls
New standard theme sucks?

Re: New standard theme sucks?
The theme isn't great, but the new version is better.
I like the notifications as well as the way to go to the unread posts of a thread with a single click.
"Stuff on the right" is everyone's main grievance I think.
Anyhow, start fixing =)

I'm going to be full on rude here, #1 because you deserve it, and #2 because it's worth it, so loosen your asshole and take it like a man.jK wrote:Just a few reason why you might find it horrible:

If you wanted a beautiful forum theme, you shouldn't have deleted the fucking database on the test server without even asking anyone first, not to mention that just visiting the test server was enough to see that a lot of work was being done, but no, you just go and delete it anyway.
And then you come back with 1998 style gradients on the forum and have the nerve to call it and "Upgrade" after destroying 6 months of painstaking work trying to keep every tom dick and asshole on this forum happy.
If you don't like it, frankly, suck it.
The layout is fine on smartphones, gt*o. It's actually readable on my phone now, which is interesting that I say that considering that I have an Xperia Z Ultra with a 6.4 inch screen. The forum layout on it is excellent now. Before I had to constantly double tap and pinch zoom, and it was a pain in the fucking ass.
If you don't like it, you are entitled to a full refund.

Re: New standard theme sucks?
Sigh, considering I am a web developer, I should divulge the fact that most android phones have a min width of 480px (not all but a large enough majority to say "all"). iPhones have a min width of 320px. The forum/site wrappers cannot gracefully scale down to 320px, this is why some of you probably think that the forum is all jacked up when you have your iphones in portrait mode.
It could be fixed, and I even spent some time doing it, but I'm not sure if I feel like spending the time again to unfuck forum styles and there is the problematic fact that phpbb apparently likes to use divs without ids or classes on important elements, and as much as I love doing css to the tune of div > >, I'll pass.
That said, if the forum theme is it's own name and won't be fucked up by an update, I could probably fix the core files and fix the layout on iCraps. Someone else might decide to do it before me, and if they do, more power to them. I may do it if I'm feeling like it at some point.
Until then, use your iPhones in portrait mode, that should up the hoz width to something like 5 or 6 hundred px, iirc (cba to care enough to look). Maybe not ideal, but should work.

oO is this browser still maintained? if fonts suck, the browser imo is to blame here. i see other points similar, but there are some duplicates of each other, so isn't this worse.jK wrote:* rendering is broken with opera classic
can you make a screenshot please?

Re: New standard theme sucks?
Well, I voted for the middle option & my two pence worth:
* Seems odd to have a dark blue background and then several different shades/levels of light blue background inside it, untli one gets to the text. The colours in general don't sit naturally with my eyes, I think because there are such a huge number of similar shades of blue/grey on each page.
* I hate the animated icons on the active topics page.
* A "quick links" menu seems like a contradiction in the terms. For me: If its a quick link ("active topics", "new posts"), I want to click on it, not pick it out from a menu. And there is stuff on the quick links menu that afaics you mostly don't use ("team", "search", "faq"), along with clutter like separate links for "new posts", "unanswered posts", "unread posts".
Does the update allow us to get a reliable spam filter?

Re: New standard theme sucks?
It's pretty awful.
Luckily, that's easy to fix.
Responsive and nice themes for phpbb3 exist.

I voted the "decent" option because awful is too negative, and it is still functional. However, I agree withy the points jK posted.
With opera I get an error that it doesn't work until the website has been upgraded to use strong encryption:

Edit. updated Opera and now it works.

Re: New standard theme sucks?
In my experience Opera classic was unable to open spring forum ever since it moved to https (probably some certificates in Opera need updating, not going to get done since classic is not supported anymore), so new phpbb is not to blame for this one.
I find new forum looks to be worse than old. It's not as easy to figure which threads have unread posts as it used to be, probably animated icons are to blame.
(added later) Icons for subforum with new replies and subforum without new replies are now very similar, at least for me. They used to be much more different, was much easier to see where the new posts are.
