Glad I found this!

Post by chinton »

I played countless hours of Total Annihilation back in the day and it was awesome, especially with the various mods that were available. I never had any idea that this community existed and am really glad I found mention of the site on a comment on some random reddit post. Now if I can just get it to build on MacOSX!

There is a small special community for everything! Which is troubling in many ways..

Welcome..

We all (with some exceptions) come from an OTA background, so welcome! I used to play vanilla TA:CC, the BF mod and now I play the XTA one, which first existed as a TA mod but is now a spring game. But there are also some very good other games in the spring engine(some years ago everybody started calling the mods games instead because it's less technical).

I think osx has some issues with the current build, but hopefully it will work soon.

that is not the reason why they are called games.
BA, ZK, and all others are games using/built on the spring engine. they may were (or are) mods (modifications) of the game Total Annihilation. so it is technically more correct to call them games from springs point of view, especially as they are all games, and only some are mods.
you cant make a game that is a mod of spring, because spring is only an engine, so a mod of spring results in an other engine, not a game. you could of course write a mod + extension pf spring to form a game in just C++ code, but it would be mod + ext then, not a pure mod.

So zervers mt-spring is a spring-mod?

Those discussions about strangely irrelevant terminology are quite relaxing. Nothing else worrys the crowd. Good.

So then all games that existed before the spring engine should be called mods, and all others games. Right?

What the fuck jools? You have to be fucking trolling

In normal context
Mod= modification(über hack, xta)
TC = total conversion(swta, gundam anihilation, ta1944)

Spring:
Mod = module = map, mutator, game, resource pack
