Client moderators
Moderator: Moderators
This is not an acceptable solution. Mod's need to be present to deal with griefers/etc. New players come in and see that crap going on and they leave. Existing players get really frustrated when this stuff happens and there is nobody that can do anything about it.Betalord wrote:If you notice people making troubles, send the logs in. Mods can't be online 24/7, but players can be banned or restricted or something for troubles they caused while no mod was online, if people report it.
Not to mention that moderation by 'sending in logs' would open up a pandoras box of problems.
A plurality of Spring players seem to be americans, why are all the mods within and hour or two of CET? (Except Drexion who has been AWOL for 3 weeks now.)
Mother for moderator!
All who agree... say "I"
Bigsteve (01:30) "I"
vote mother in for mod! hes American so hes in the timezone that requires one and... hes super responsible! he has to be... hes called mother!
Can you think of a better name for someone to enforce the lobby rules than someone called mother?!
Everyone listens to their mother!

I agree, more american timezone mods are needed... However it is good that action can be taken by chatlog if nessicary.mother wrote:This is not an acceptable solution. Thank you.Betalord wrote:I added DavetheBrave, he's from GMT-5.
Every little mod addition helps, although the vast majority of the time there isn't a mod even on, and when there is a mod on he's usually in game and thus not actively watching the channel anyways. so unless DavetheBrave intends on spending 12 hours a day just sitting watching #main I don't think the problem is quite compleatly dealt with yet

We've got an average user count of 100 or so users in main, and we've got an average admin count of 1. Mostly TAS users are pretty easy to admin, but still, IRC trial by error sources seem to indicate that with that many users and that few admins you're asking for trouble.
We really need to set up channel specific administration so that people can start and administrate thier own client channels, and we can assign #main ops that aren't globals and aren't perminently banning people from spring for being socially unacceptable in the chat channel.

Many of you are just firing up about the admin thing.
As long is i have been online (thats LOTS) there are some annoying ppl (thinks of... ), but not of the spamming type, so definitely, not worth kick/ban, but annoying nevertheless.
And about spammers/morons that deserve kicking/banning, im most sure as long there is one admin online, there is no need for more implementation of complex stuff.
After all, its all about just a game lobby channel, not aa serious place for developing software or technical service..
All the hype about more admins needed is not called imho.
I agree there are times no admin is on, and at that times, some morons appear, but nothing another amin at the rigth time cant solve.
that is my experience.
DaveTheBrave is very welcome as an admin!

meanwhile I have been kick banned from a forum for posting the following in response to a question about IP address:
11111111.11111111.11111111.11111111
because they thought I was spamming the channel... so we have to make sure our ops have brains and a general sense of humour, because sometimes it's okay to post the same thing more then once...

I'd say about one out of every four of my sessions in the Spring lobby sees some sort of idiot that deserves to be muted/kicked/banned. Some of these are for spamming, but spamming seems to be relatively rare. More often, it is some 12 year old simply being a dumbass and making comments that are quite inappropriate - hurling insults, making racist statements, and generally being a troll. These are the types that, in my opinion, should be kicked and banned.mongus wrote:Many of you are just firing up about the admin thing.

That's the problem. All too often, there are no admins online and in the Spring lobby rather than being in-game or idling. No need for complex stuff, just enough admins that we can be relatively sure of having one or more actively in the Spring lobby at a time. And about spammers/morons that deserve kicking/banning, im most sure as long there is one admin online, there is no need for more implementation of complex stuff.
We want the game lobby channel to be somewhere where everyone can feel welcome, not somewhere where swear words, racist comments, and idiocy are acceptable because some people have a kneejerk objection to having any more admins. After all, its all about just a game lobby channel, not aa serious place for developing software or technical service..

I don't think it's entirely appropriate to ban people from spring for spamming in #main... but why the hell can't we ban them from #main? They really don't need to be in the main chat room to use spring features. If they don't see being effectively cut off from the primary communication channel as appropriate warning we can always submit replays of them ruining games to admins that can then determine that it IS acctually appropriate to ban them perminently or temporarily from spring as a whole.
I just added Decimator, he's from GMT-6.
I've read the posts here and will be adding some more flexible commands for server (and channel) administration with the next update, I just didn't expect the lobby to turn into IRC with time, so I will have to redesign the protocol a bit which may take some time ..
