You DO NOT NEED 3dSMAX TO IMPORT FOR SPRING S30!

I figured it out.

I will put together a tutorial for ya'll shortly. EVERYONE THIS IS GREAT THIS IS AWESOME! I am happy I can uphold the standards and ethics of ACM :).

Ok lets get right to business, First you will need a copy of wings3d. It is free so no worries about cost. Once you have downloaded and installed it I also recommend you download the manual. This will be helpful later.

Alright, it should be known that before we start I am just showing you gents how the basics of this export stuff works.. all wings 3d interface/keys must be figured out on your own.

First have your model as one solid object. Note the ground face here will be removed as will the flare... Also when I re-imported it into wings it was flipped. I have no idea why but hey, I cannot help that.

Ok, so now we are looking at this model like this. Well I want you to select all of it and to be sure...right click and select combine this will make it one object.

The next thing I want you to do is select it again and then right click. At the bottom, there is an option UV MAPPING. Choose this and uvmap your model using forced segement..this is covered in the wings manual and will not be covered here.

So now we are mapped. This was the part that took some time to figure out. Exporting to an obj did not save the heirarchy but a 3ds export did. Export the LOAD into upspring badda-big.. you have your model. You will need to adjust the parts around and rename the hierarchy but this works. So yeah. Enjoy :)

ergh, well, you could use the free trial version of 3dsm7 to import, so no one complained.
Still it's good to know other ways. (since I don't work with 3dsm anymore)
I'll wait patiently for your tutorial ^.^

there isn't alot to it there it is.. any questions and I will be happy to answer them.

Either way... using the trail 3ds like that isn't really the best thing. and wings has a nice uvwmapping feature.

no, you have to UVmap in something else, but UpSpring will import UVmaps.

You don't need to map a hierarchy, you can also assemble your unmapped parts in upspring, then hit "Export model for UV mapping". This exports it into a single-object model, which can be mapped and saved as OBJ.
Then import those UV coordinates back onto the hierarchy in upspring with "Import UV coordinates from model".
This way you can UV map a hierarchy using the OBJ format.

Didn't work. It may be the way wings3d works. In order to pull it off I simply open an exported .3ds.. Although for models that I do not have the .wings file for I will be using the export for uv mappng option.

Of course you don't. I've been able to successfully get models in game from Maya with its obj exporter...

He is the only one here ever that's used an avatar with a smoking scene. Looks like a clear attempt to make smoking look cool.
He's even the one that asked for larger avatars:

Considering all, i wouldn't be surprised if he was some sort of tobaco company employee. With the growing opression on the murderous tobaco, the companies are resorting to more and more wild ways of publicity, as well as trying to, very agressively, target the youngers.
I've been thinking about this ever since i first saw him around.

But this is just me talking.

I had tried to preserve hierarchy by exporting from upspring to 3ds, but wings crashed when importing this 3ds. Hopefully the technique Zaphod mentions will work.
