Spring Crashes on Shadowhandler/DecalHandler

Hey! i keep getting a crash during loading, i have had it work once, but only once. I updated my graphic drivers to the latest ones.

Having downloaded and tested Spring 94, it works perfectly. Its only Spring 95 that has issues :S

Run spring.exe -> edit settings -> and set GroundDecals to 0 and Shadows to 0.

I did that, and it still crashes at the same point. Again, Spring 94.1 has absolutely no issues. I set my shadows to 0 and my decals to 0, but it still cannot create the shadow/decal handler during loading.

Edit #2, sorry, how does one put safemode on?

safemode will make spring use these settings:

so can use values from there if you can not figure out safemode start.

Thanks for all your help guys, i'm hoping we can get this all figured out pretty soon.

I used safemode and it worked okay, so i'm trying to figure out whats going on in that respect.

As far as i know i've turned both Shadows and Ground Decals off, but i'm also pretty inexperienced with how exactly the spring settings work because it used to just work :(

Even when i set the settings.cfg to exactly what it says Safe mode settings are it crashes at the same point. it is only when i use the safemode.bat thing that it works properly. Hmm. Springsettings.cfg is in the root of my spring directory, correct?

You look at the link knorke posted - the column on the right hows (in red) what the effect of safemode is. Turn those settings to what safemode uses one by one to find out which one is causing you the problem.

(The crash is actually your graphics drivers crashing, so ATI :roll:)

Sidenote: It looks like either (1) your lobby fails and creates multiple settings file or (2) you installed a new spring version over the top of the old one. See the top lines of your infolog. Having multiple springsettings.cfg will make it hard for you to control what settings spring is using - your lobby may use different ones to when spring.exe is run directly. Imo delete these two

I used safemode and it worked okay, so i'm trying to figure out whats going on in that respect.
Now just need to figure out which setting caused the crash, then disable only that and enable rest ;)
The "most likely to crash" settings are imo those: (from seeing what worked for other players)
UseEFX=0
UsePBO=0
UseVBO=0
3DTrees=0
AdvMapShading=0
LoadingMT=0
(set them to =0 to not crash)

The multiple springsettings.cfg thing can be annoying, it is a thing that lobbies somehow like to do. Guess you can delete all but one (though they might recreate, make new thread on that if it should be a problem)
Put the above config lines into the config file(s) and save.

I essentially set everything to safemode settings and it worked. I then turned Decals on, and it worked. I turned Shadows on, and it worked, i turned luashaders on, and it worked. The rest i left as safe mode settings would have had it, and thats good enough for me. Perhaps because i had uncompressed textures my Video card was having memory issues? I'm not entirely sure.
