That will be a nice game play idea.
I think all the player names should be referred as another name or number, or whatever... but more importantly, they should be the same for all players that are currently playing the ffa game.
Indeed, if real playerA is aliased as player0 from real playerB point of view and is aliased as player1 from real playerC point of view, then in the chat players will start communicate with geographic position or starting position that are map dependent and player will learn that eventually.
The reference that could be use to call player could be number, or famous name of the DSD scene or whatever....

I agree. I remember playing RISK-like games in WC3, and they used that for good reason.

Although I dont really play FFA, I must agree this would be really neat feature. Playing every game from scratch, determining the skill level/threat of your neighbours by each individual scout or clash.
A downside is that it takes away the fun of knowing the community if completely anonymous. So the lobby should still show true nicknames, but ingame they should be anonymized somehow.

I think I'd enjoy this as well
The anon nicknames, or at least team colors, should probably also be synced. Then everyone is on the same page if, for instance, they were discussing the game afterwards.Floris wrote: A downside is that it takes away the fun of knowing the community if completely anonymous. I agree that it's a nice idea and I've thought about it before but I don't think its possible to do it, sorry!
(quick explanation for those who know a bit: obviously trying to do it via the UI is stupid - it is maybe possible to use both the handlers together to hide/obscure names etc, but it would be extremely hacky + error prone so ~no chance.)

Player names are just sitting in the startscript so I think the best implementation would be at this point. But it is a lot harder because you would have to change all lobbies and autohosts to support it.

I would see if you could alter their names via a gadget.
