knorke wrote:That is excactly your post that I quoted when I wrote:
The drop of players which appears in the graphs last night just after midnight is actually due to the separation of bots/players
I was quoting you.
I know that obviously, why are you saying this to me?
knorke wrote:I do not understand why it is such a problem to explain the graphs in such cases; especially by linking to your own posts.
Who said it is a problem?

It seems you totally misunderstood my post, yet it seems perfectly clear to me when I re-read it.

Is it coincidence or correlation- that the fiercest drama, always circles around statistics?

bibim we were not insulting the graphs or the work put into them! Also the fact knorke is a moderator should be irrelevant.

Data is only as useful as your knowledge about how it is collected and processed. If someone appears and makes claims backed up by your stats then we would be stupid not to tell them more details about the data which are relevant to their claims. I don't insult statistics but I do make sure people who use them are better able to judge their usefulness. This often requires me to say that they are less useful than they thought.

We appreciate the statistics and hopefully use them to answer questions which are within their power to answer. They do not answer every question though and it's silly to be insulted when people point this out.

He who wants to argue, will find argue-means - the real problem is people taking stats out of context and flailing them around moderators and/or devs heads.

Knorke was right there, however he was contacting the completely wrong person to get it solved. The correct response would have be
Dear Mr.Noob,

thank you for your 3 side long letter + attached Graph, why more speedmetall and dsd + Krog up your bASSe are absolut correlating with fun, and thus every other type of game should be forbidden. I certainly will not inform the stats manufacturar about this, and instead put you on the FU Mailing list, were you will get daily news of how many fingers we can lift, to solve your problem.

bibim wrote:Anyway, I plan to put all my Spring related work on Github someday (as I did with SpringIrcBridge already). So StatServ (the Spring lobby bot retrieving the stats) and the corresponding Cacti scripts will be available to anyone willing to collect these stats in his own Round Robin Databases. Building readable graphs from these data is another story though...

Could someone with springrts access set up the bots and stats on there? I would gladly assist, but my git-fu is incredibly weak so I have no idea where to start if I were on my own.
