A message from Chris Taylor himself

Post by DeathHawk »

I was looking at the forums today and i stambled apon this statement and since he doesnt have the time to look at the forums himself i thourght i would pass it on for him :-)

SupComU: Have you had a look at the Spring project at all? If so, what do you think of it? The SY team has implemented innovations into their interface never seen in an RTS before either.

CT: I think that project is extraordinary, and we talked about it a lot over the years. That team is going to have a lot of fun modding SUPCOM.

Were doin good guys Hes impressed :-) !!!!

those who are intreasted in reading the whole thread heres the link

Seeing that screenies, I think Spring could produce them as well, with this new map format thingy, and dynamic lightning/shaders.. Would be awesome!

mwha, someone should recreate the shots fo supcom in the spring engine, only using Arm/Core, remodelling the entire races of a game we havent even got a full buildtree for would be silly. But the maps and features are very replicable, and would make a mockery fo supcom if released when a free rts game engine can produce similair if not better results.

SupComm has a good financial backing. It is being created by professional game makers, artists, graphics designers, etc. It is headed by a person who headed an absolutely revolutionary game, which in many aspects has yet to be surpassed by another commercial endeavor.
Bottom line: It had better superior to Spring a ten-fold amount, or I'm just going to keep right along playing Spring, happy as can be.

Hmm, Supcom's naturally massive scale does lend itself to a nice b-tech mod (dropships are HUGE, and while that is possible in Spring, you still need maps big enough to place them on). But it will need to be able to do alot more than that to get me to stop playing Spring, including being able to do actual b-tech damage modelling (which once collision boxes with the ability to find out which box got hit are put in, Spring will be able to do nicely).
