CORE UNITS NEEDS REDESING ! ! !

i agree with you, at the first look it really look like it didnt really fit , but in beetwen them it doesnt look so bad.Maelstrom wrote:Now that I see the model in game, instead of renders in the modeling program, I see that it doesnt stick out as much as I had thought it would. Pehaps if you showed us that shot in the first place, instead of the pic with no team-colours, people would have been a bit happier.
Maybe some more shots of the unit in game along with other units would give us yet a better idea of how it fits the core army
WTF?!?!
That isn't even with the glow done... and NOW you want it?
Look, something you naive(computer science term and NOT derogatory) users need to understand... an in editor RENDER is always going to be different then in game. I tried to tell you guys it would fit but alas your barage of comments against it has forced argh to choose otherwise...
So, do not tell me, tell argh. He has already decided to NOT use the texture. I just did it as a favor to him. IF he still wants it I'll finish the reflective map and glow map.
If you can persuade him.

As I said, You should have showed us (including Argh) the ingame shot. Renders look different, I know. So what is the point in showing a render when the unit will look different anyways? We have no way of knowing intuitivley what a unit will look like ingame just from a render, as we dont know what will be team coloured, what it will look like against ground, how the ingame lighting will affect it ect.
maybe I have some sort of magicall ability to know after years of texturing, mapping and codeing what what things would look like in game... or maybe I am more creative. I HAVE no idea how you could not from the shot I posted see what the unit would look like in spring. Maybe I am the only one who can mentaly transpose an image. I don't know.
The pictures posted were from within wings. It has long been the notion that models should aways be rendered without shading to show people what the true model looks like. That way it is not a "glamour" shot. It is a simple shot of the model.
If I posted an ingame image it may look different or dressed up by the effects. Renders are generally accept as a decent preview and that is why it was posted in HELP... and the moment I had not done the team colors, reflection map or glow map. I only completed the team colors to prove you people wrong. I am not waisting a moment longer on it unless I KNOW for a fact that ARGH would want it.
Also DO strike out your comment in the origonal thread.

People who have no modelling experience generally cant imagine what a model looks like in game. Also, you are the only one who knows what the model will look like once completed, with team colours and reflections. We dont. We have no idea what it will look like with team colours and refelctions on. I thought that the team colours would be on that Pink/Purple thing! If the images you post do not accuratley show what the unit will look like, then we cannot accuralty judge it. I recognise that it wasnt finished, and that you couldnt have displayed the team colours then even if you wanted to, but you gave no idication of where they should go, or even that they were missing. You know what the skin should look like by the end, we dont. If you dont supply the information, then we have no way of knowing the information, even if you know it yourself.
Dude, comeon... you have to have an imagination. It is not hard to imagine team textures... and what idiot would only put team textures on the sides of a top down game...
As I said earlier the model was done in grey for the consideration of team colors. I do not believe for one second that you lack the imagination to see what team colors COULD look like on the unit.

Skinners are not more common than modelers. Skinning is not just "making a picture"- it's a very difficult artform.
I have already posted final versions of the skin. I did not accept Smoth's submission... not because it sucked, but because it just doesn't look like a classical OTA design. It's nothing personal, and I appreciated the time spent.
As for Smoth's use of a pre-engine render with the bare texture... well, as I've stated in my Positive Critique thread, I (and most people) are going to get the best view of a unit when we see it in the actual game engine, not elsewhere. I always try to provide final screens from the game engine- that's where people are going to see it, and a render just doesn't really cut it, especially with a game engine like Spring that supports features like reflectivity that are going to look very different in a true raytracer.
If the SY's want it for XTA, great, if not, no biggie, and I'll maybe submit something for the multi-warhead/multi-shot vehicle. I really can't put more than a day or two more into this side-project. I have to do modding in very short spurts, because I have a fairly busy job and other responsibilities, and I'm working on the new art for NanoBlobs 0.3, so that that side project, which was supposed to take a week, can sit for awhile and get feedback from players/AI developers while I work on something else.
