Dune games/mods Deathknell

Post by AF »

Remember these guys?

http://evodune.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=10100

Seems they've been forced by the copyright holder to shift gears, they don't want fan-fiction games. Makes you think how lucky we are nobodies waltzed in and said "no TA content" after all these years

Has anybody considered contacting the copyright holders (Atari?) and ask for how much some kind of license to use TA content would cost?

You do realize Wargaming has the TA IP now? They are the guys behind a few f2p games, there's nearly 0 chance they'd want a fully free competitor. Besides, when BAR finally happens there'll be little reason to care for TA copyright.

You missed the news:

In may 2013, Atari put the TA IP on auction, with bidding starting at 250 000$. The bid was won by Wargaming.net(the studio that made World of Tanks), for an undisclosed amount. Uber Entertainement (the studio that is making Planetary Annihilation) also tried to get it, but didn't put enough money on the table.

It's worth noting that Wargaming.net also acquired Chris Taylor (the daddy of Total Annihilation).

Thats a new form of deal- buy a IP- get the creator in package. (Regular Feeding is necessary- else the IP will rot, when the creator decomposes)

I hope they will give him a food bowl with his name on it, and his own little doggie bed.

Bad Chris, bad chris, no TA Kingdoms- we do that outside.
I wonder how that feels, to be forced to return to your origins, no matter how good they were.
Little bit like the divorced father of four returning to his childhood room at his parents house. Its a new beginning, but boy do the circumstences suck.

I've just realized that NODU means Not Original Dune Universe. Now NOTA has a little sister.

Does anybody think that killing with fire should be considered, before we get NORA, NOCnC, NOSC and whatnot?

But is is, apparently, the only one that truly matters.

FTFY:

I wonder if those unit names are also patented. You know, Samson, Brawler, Flash etc... Those names are good ones, and that's how you can tell an original Cavedog unit from a 3rd party one.

My local pirate party liaison tells me you can't patent unit names just yet.
alternatives: Sammy, Wrangler, Blitz
And also rename Shai-hulud into ... Snail-hulud
