Crusader Kings 2 with all the expansions is a fantastic grand strategy game.
The player picks a ruler, can be of a single province, a duchy or a kingdom.
the player than follows the family line as the males in the family die and pass their titles to their kids.
You need to worry about the character you play as well as the breeding and raising of kids(you can try and control the traits and stats they get as they grow up) and can conquer other rulers and lands for the duration of roughly 600 years of gameplay, taking place during the late middle ages.
Your score consists of the summation of the individual scores of all the rulers in your family line.
EU IV takes place after the middle ages.
Unlike the focus CK2 has on the dynasty EU focuses more on the management of the country a player controls.
In CK2 you get to play with Europe and north Africa, in EU IV you get to play with any existing nation on the globe between the 15th and 19th centuries.
Great games both, I strongly recommend them.

The best thing about CK2 is that you can play the AGOT mod, something most fans will appreciate.
