What We Want

Post by Runecrafter »

Well all, I'm writing this post for people to make suggestions on the maps they would like. Please add any comments on features and or aspects that currently exist or that you would like to see included in maps.

A post like this is to aid us mappers in making maps that people would really enjoy playing on.

I thank you all for your time and suggestions. 8)

BIG spacemaps.

And PLEASE with the "cosmos" style of cubemap, and not the crappy asteroidbattle-style water with some planets painted on it.

METAL LOW! I mean, almost no metal att all! You shoud be sucking every inch of the map dry for metal to sustain an enconomy!

Rocky maps. I want to see canoys, hills, roads and mountains!! Not flat or flat with a the spice of a bumb.

Urban maps would really rock, hard.

Also, any map that doesn't follow the usual 'rush to the middle' style, would be good.

Yea, rush to the middle maps get old. A map idea someone posted somewhere else:

Have 3 strategic points in the map. A high(er) metal spot, a Geo spot, and a conviniant hill for artiliary. Then you have to make a choice. Secure the metal or geo, and get an economic advantage, or secure the strategic location, and get a military advantage. Would make for some interesting gameplay, different from most other maps out there.

Hmmm... there's a thought, I might do some quick playtesters from these ideas.

For a long time I have wanted some maps that reflect true battlefields. James Beattys "epic maps" http://www.epicclass.com for ota were orite but its spring, lets see some innovation. How about a purley urban map of Stalingrad.

Cheers

I would like to see a remake of The Desert Triad. That was a really nice map, and Spring doesn't have many good small 3FFA maps.

Does anyone remember my Tower of Babel map? I'd like to see someone complete THAT. Very, very badly.

1) Low low metal, wind to make everything worth fighting for

2) Strategic chokepoints at designated locations away from the base

3) Artful integration of terrain into gameplay (see part 2)

4) DETAIL ON MAPS. 100% of current maps are barren and have no detail, or atmosphere. Maps should be *lush* with details.

It's nice to raed all these when you find half of its included in the map your working on... (not the tree map unfortuntaly...)

One side has more of the high ground, but the lower side has more metal (though it wont be my normal continious metal underground style thing... is more in a metal veins style, and nither side will have enought metal to pork at camp), has no geos in start positions so you have to fight over them, and also... It realy wont be bland. :-) busy making lots of rocks and trees and dead trees and burnt out ruins for it. Hopefully you guys will like it.

(And hopefully after I have that one sorted I can start on my urban map.)

huge maps and urban maps. it sucks in ota since units shot whether or not the target was in their los but in spring, units only shoot at units in their los. this would really make urban fighting more interesting.

maybe some maps of actual countries. it would be awesome to be able to launch an amphibious assualt on britian or roll across the vast plains of russia. this is spring, you know. lets make use of it. theres so much more we can do that we couldnt in ta. i would honestly love to see an epic map of europe. we've seen that we can do 40x40 maps. we jsut have to see how far we can push this engine.

Im still calling for a map of Tasmaina. Perfectly suited for a 3 way battle. Plus it has one of the deepest natural ports in the world, making it excelent for naval battles. Plus I will then be able to nuke Launceston. :P

Seeing what's lately been coming out of tassy, maelstrom, I don't thinkt hey need any more radiation. ;) :P

Runecrafter, check your PMbox.

aGorm: Can I advise not pulling an A...*ahem* (obscuring name to avoid conflict), and say that you have such and such project planned, and such and such project almost completed, and how it is so fantastic, because it does this and that.

Actions speak louder than words; if you say nothing, and release a stunner, everyone will be very impressed. If you talk up an amazing map, and don't release it, or release a bomb, it'll be made all the worse by the fact you weer talking it up.

... That being said, I know the quality of your maps, and am definitely looking forward to this one :)
