Sync Lag

Post by KuraiRyuu »

I have a big problem with sync lag. I don't know if it's my internet or what.
I get major sync lag when I play with my friend on Robot Defense for TA.

It seems to happen when there's a lot of particles/units in the map at once, no matter if I can see it or not. Like a nuke or the hundreds of units. Example1: Around half-way through the match, when there are a ton of units around the map(no wrecks), my ping just continuously goes up, it's gone up to 100k before, with "80-90 CPU usage".

Example2: When I turned the settings all the way down, it helped a little, but it would still get major sync lag just a little more-so into the game, it would also still just get sync lag up to like 15k ping for a few mins when a nuke explodes, then go back down to normal.

I'v turned down all the settings almost all the way down, it didn't help much.

I don't know when it started but I know for sure that I didn't ever have sync lag(just had normal fps lag) before that 93 lobby update that lagged up and broke some things.

I have sync lag on the newest version of TA and the last version released. So I doubt the game mode/thing itself is the root of the problem.

It's not my computer because I'v even gotten a better computer, and my computer change was before the 93 and 94 update, I'm pretty sure I didn't get sync lag before or directly after my computer change.

My friend and I have tried pausing for me to "catch up" with the game, but it just instantly starts epic-sync lagging again.

My friend and I have been playing together for little more than a year, so I really doubt it's our connection to each other.

Turning the settings down means mostly graphics, but that isn't the problem. Your CPU cannot handle the simulation. The simulation (I think esp. the pathing part) got more expensive in the last engine version, so yes - you need more CPU power now for the same game :(

The things that matter most in this case is the total number of units on the whole map and the pathing. So you can regulate the following things to have less lag:

* less units:
** when you have >=T2 eco, kill all winds, etc. Actually kill all T1 units.
** limit the amount of enemy units with maxchicken (=200)
** don't build air fighter screen (very important!!). Build 20 long range AA (mercury) and lots of flaks instead. The only fighters that you should build are the fighters from T3-air-lab, because you need only few of them.
** don't build more nanos, when you can upgrade existing ones
** kill burrows to have less enemy units on the map (queen/king anger is not so important)

* pathing:
** the bigger the map, the more pathing
** a flat map has the least pathing --> green lowest pathing
** air fighter screen es expensive

* generally you can slow down the game by lowering the speed with "+/-" ... maybe with alt or ctrl? ... don't remember... then you'll lag less.
* no wrecks
* number of CPU cores does not matter, speed of single core is important
* Maybe you can sometimes join a match on the BOS autohost and look at the settings and ask other players how it feels (performancewise) for them.

I hope this makes the situation better for you.

map deformation can cause a high cpu load, too..
