Balanced Anhilation unit guide or raw data table ?

Post by liotier »

Before I installed Spring+BA, my previous experience was TA+CC... So of course the units feel weird - the right sort of weird since the direction taken is very similar to what we were dreaming of at the time, but disorientating nevertheless... So I need to immerse myself in units stats a little !

All I have found is http://www.balancedannihilation.org/wp- ... nfo/ba760/ - extensive but difficult to summarize in any useful way.

I guess that developing narratives and tutorials about how to develop unit mixes for various situations and strategies would be a monumental endeavour... So I would settle for just a table with key indicators - but I'm seeing tha the data wouldn't in 2D fit because units have multiple weapons and explosions.

So what do you use for reference ? Does any of you have sliced and diced all the unit data in a format more readily assimilable - or even into something handy for in-game reference ? Or do you all know the units data by heart ?

first of all, WELCOME TO THE FORUMS.

the unit data is highly complex, because not only are units broad in terms of many weapons with varying range and damage. there are also turn rates, how fast the aim animations happen how they perform on different terrain(hills or flat straight aways, underwater etc) there is also the complex armor class system.

Pretty much most people learn through trial and error. it is like a very large and complex riddle as to what is the best counter for what. Add to that the balance changes and fixes that happen means that BA is a terribly(in a good way) complex game which requires a great deal of commitment to really know most of it's units. That being said, the best way is to spectate and try things out on your own.

On the spring wiki is some more info about Balanced Annihilation.
It seems not all was copied over to the BA homepage. (Or maybe I just did not find it there.)

Quite imcompletly though, only the page on vehicles seems more finished: http://springrts.com/wiki/Vehicles

Welcome.

For your purpose you'd probably be best off watching and talking to some of the better players during a couple of games.

Thanks, that sort of literary description is a good start.

I guess I'll have to enjoy a few replays... Any favorites I should not miss ?

Or maybe I'll just play and chalk it up as training !

Old replays are always incompatible when new engine versions arrive, so you can't really reach Classic games too easily, plus the old replay site is now offline.

But here's a list of replays with only good players, for example:

Basically, yes. There are old guides hanging around in various places, but the at the moment the best way to learn how units behave is to try stuff out and spectate games of good players :)

There will one day be a tutorial & campaign, but not at the moment.
