new maps
we are playing like same 10 maps at maximum all the time and it's a bit boring
I am just wondering why aren't other maps being promoted
another thing:
not sure about other clients, but SpringLobby should have an easy way to discover and show available maps from springfiles.com for example

Re: new maps
The map cycle, or lack thereof, plays a major role in this. By automatically changing map after a finished game you get to play some different maps. If the map cycle is very short you are stuck playing the same map over and over.
Re: new maps
play ffa and discover pool of new maps

can expand the list. download new mapsklapmongool wrote:The map cycle, or lack thereof, plays a major role in this. By automatically changing map after a finished game you get to play some different maps. If the map cycle is very short you are stuck playing the same map over and over.

User knows that there are other maps but wants some mythical curator to find the good ones for him so he doesn't have to.Fuel wrote:[...]why aren't other maps being promoted[...]SpringLobby should have an easy way to discover and show available maps from springfiles.com for example[...]

Re: new maps
I dont think finding the maps is the problem really. It is getting other people to play the maps.SinbadEV wrote:.
Re: new maps
hosts have limited mapsSinbadEV wrote:User knows that there are other maps but wants some mythical curator to find the good ones for him so he doesn't have to.
users except host admins cannot upload maps
Re: new maps
This is true for spads and tera but [x]host and aceserveur have quite a wide selection, and they will also auto-download new maps from springfiles.Fuel wrote:hosts have limited mapsSinbadEV wrote:User knows that there are other maps but wants some mythical curator to find the good ones for him so he doesn't have to.

Most players have quite a narrow map preference, the problem is with them not with the hosts or availability of maps. But it's the same in any game.

Re: new maps
Host admins can't upload maps usually, only bot owners.
It's not. Spads actually has over 1500 maps. All the BA hosts currently have >50 useable maps for the games they host and the barrier is players choosing (except ffa hosts which need special maps). Map rotation hosts do get used a bit though, maybe 30% of the time at a guess. This is true for spads and tera
Re: new maps
Well I downloaded the map pack here, which is a good start IMHO: https://torrentbox.com/download/1582141 ... ck.torrent
For someone who's playing this for a longer time it may sound ridiculous, but it is not *that* easy to find maps fitting what you really want, springfiles isn't a help there with 42 pages of maps but no good way to sort them ... (I'm missing things like by game sorting or by size with smaller than/bigger than options ...)

Re: new maps
Almost all maps are not game specific and are made independently of games, so 'sorting maps by game' does not make sense.
You can order search results (or all maps) by size irrc.
But yes searching through maps takes time and a better tool would be nice.

yes, but it doesnt solve the problem with uploading to hostSilentwings wrote:Almost all maps are not game specific and are made independently of games, so 'sorting maps by game' does not make sense.

Re: new maps
[x]TheHost had basically _all_ maps since it ran directly on springfiles. Also there were about 40 maps in rotation. People still prefered TERA8v8DSD so it is clearly not a host problem.
Better go ask them why they stick to it. Most forum people dislike DSD so this is probably not your audience.

Re: new maps
shadowmaps (correct name?) exist. IMO [BOS] autohost has it enabled.
Re: new maps
Spads is missing many popular maps plus the ones it has are rarely the latest version of the map. As if the owner of this bot died a few years ago and forgot to turn his computer off.Silentwings wrote:Host admins can't upload maps usually, only bot owners.

I think this thread belongs in the maps forum.

Re: new maps
Got any examples?
Maybe you should tell the owner of spads which maps you think this is true for... (I think it has basically all regularly played maps in their popular versions).

Re: new maps
I think spads can host also maps it doesn't have, as ghosted maps.
But the more important question: why do you need more maps when you have Duck?

Re: new maps
Last time i asked to upload duck quest, they agreed. Maybe ask vbs to feed all host admins its huge map db. I download the 20Go once so i am not worried anymore
