Final Frontier 1.18 (Website and first FF-map released)

I also noticed that starbombers DROP their bombs.
This is annoying on three levels, graphical, logicaly and gameplay wize...
Graphical: It looks damnded odd. Really...am i the only one who thinks this?
Logicaly: Its space...there is NO GRAVITY!
Gameplay: They cant hit capitalclass ships for crap...all but one bomb hits.
The remedy? Make them more like torpido bombers then regularl ones. Like the bombs are missles, so they drop out of the end and go "foosh!" and fly into the target. They need a bit of spread, so you can still area bomb the area.
Dont you think that would look cool? I think it would look cool!

thats exactly the pont i was sure it will happen. So i didnt tried it. I think you must imagine, that the bombs are under the bomber and they have small boosters on them which let them fly straight dow.Fanger wrote:Only way to fix the whole bombers firing torpedoes and then crashing into ships (which I have tested extensively it always happens and looks retarded) is to make them act like gunships... this solves the crashing but is not quite as nifty looking I suppose... possibly less balanced as well..
Making them to gunships would be the worst solution... and look odd.

Keep fun above logic/realism please, spaceships should fire further than 50 feet, mines shouldnt extract infinite amounts of all materials needed to build anything and magically transport them to factories either!
But yeah since the mods so darn pretty you might as well make it look cooler!
Im not a modder so i have no idea whatsoever if this would work, but couldnt you make bombers fly higher than capital ships and then just fire bomb-looking, straight flying, wide firing cone rockets?(no smoke trail and using bomb model, as well as slow speed)

That's almost what I was saying...krogothe wrote:Im not a modder so i have no idea whatsoever if this would work, but couldnt you make bombers fly higher than capital ships and then just fire bomb-looking, straight flying, wide firing cone rockets?(no smoke trail and using bomb model, as well as slow speed)
Have you tried out the F-4 Phantom in TA:WD for OTA? it used an LoS weapon, not a bomb, for its "Napalm bomb." Pretty cool effect too.

making them fly higher is no problem. They still fly higher than all orther units. Not much, but higher.
If i would make them fire rockets. spring handles that like a front attack weapon and the bomber would fly straight towards the target - it would fire the rockets (till now all looks fine and cool) - and then it would crush against its target. Its the same with all non gun ships: namely the antifighter-fighters, the predator, sliver and some corvettes. Try it out urself.. it still looks bad, but i think bombers would look way worse.
If you can speak to some of the spring developers to fix this problem, i will try it, but at the moment, there is no way. Sorry

yeah, it's a misfortunate consequence of the flight AI. Don't the flight physics tag have a strafing value, where fighters go out X distance after strafing a target before the turn around? If that's true, ask the devs for a pull-away tag, so that flying craft pull away when they get X distance near to target.
problems with multi
I am having trouble trying to connect to games using FF. xta is no problem though. What happens is I get the "connecting to server message" and there is an error message in the diagnostics bar at the top: something like "unknown model armjeth".
This only happens when I try to connect to a game, I can host without errors but no-one can connect. I have tried to set up games with a few other people and we all get the same problem and diagnostic messages.
Is anybody else having this problem? How do I fix it?

What about doing something with the tag that controls the pull up height of fighters. Ever noticed when you take control of a fighter and let it do its own thing on the attack run that it will fly straight towards the target and then at a predetermined height it will pull up and fly over the target.
And for the record I think its awesome when your battleship has done an epic attack run through enemy defences and while doing its death spiral manages to take out a few more with its turrets... Goes down fighting! Thats the spirit!!

Re: problems with multi
I think u have the same problem Kovin has. Its his connection. He can only join games from players not behind a router. Try asking before start, if the player is behind a router or not.mecha wrote:I am having trouble trying to connect to games using FF. xta is no problem though. But it cant be the mod FF.
I can do so too. I think its better if one of the FF team sends them an article. But perhaps some of you can help me by writing a cool short article of FF because my english isnt really good (i sure will credit the author). Screens and logos are no prob for me. So please tell me if u are interested in this...guess what mod is missing from http://moddb.com/

It should be well written, have many facts (the featurelist), and make the reader interested in trying this mod.
Then perhaps i will try to send this article to tauniverse and planet total annihilation too..
Did someone say...promo?
Anyone who is familiar with Total Annihilation: Spring will know that you can fight on the ground, in the air and over the water. But now...prepare to fight in the absolute chill of interplanetary space. Total Annihilation: the Final Fronter is a epic modification to TA:S witch replaces the ground, air and sea force's of TA:S with a massive space force. Will you fight as the ARM, with their nimble fighters and long range battleships that can hammer enemy's to dust from a few kilometers? Will you fight as the CORE, with a fleet of massive battleships, meant to hammer the enemy to submission through sheer force?
-59 spaceships. each horribly beweaponed and deadly
-3 tech levels. allowing you to build everything from fusion reactors to massive, armored battle stations
-Massive Star ships. Unleash the deadly Planetkiller, and shatter the map under enough firepower to systematically bombard a planet back into the stone age or create a fleet of long ranged Broadsides and blast the enemy from a safe range.
-Nimble Fighters. A battleship could blow a fighter out of the sky in a single strike, but can it kill what it cant hit? Deploy waves of deadly fighters and star bombers and destroy the enemy under the press of massive numbers.
-Impressive battles. Lights flash, smoke billows and ships go up in flames! Even minor engagements looks like massive battles as enough energy to shatter three small sized moons is unleashed to destroy your foe's
-Be smart, be silent, be fast. Will you sneak through the dark of space or will you approach brazenly, with your fleet for all to see? Or will you decide the path of guile, and slip through the enemy's defense's with covert telaportation technology.
-Fight your fellow man. Fight on line against the cunning wit (or numbing stupidity) of your fellow man. Match wits with the enemy, not with a computer
-Often Updated. The creators of this mod are continually updating their work, adding in new sounds, new modules and balancing. If a bug rears its head, one only needs to announce it and it will be fixed.
-Fight in Space. A small, but growing, number of maps made of TA:Spring are set in the depths of space. Fight in a realistic environment, and sure to watch he battle more then the awesome surroundings.

hehe thanks a lot!

Anyone who is familiar with Total Annihilation: Spring will know that you can fight on the ground, in the air and over the water. But now, its time for ├óÔé¼┼ôThe Next Generation Of War├óÔé¼┬Ø! Prepare yourself to fight in the absolute chill of interplanetary space. Total Annihilation: Final Frontier is an epic modification to TA: Spring witch replaces the ground, air and sea forces with a massive space navy.
Will you fight for ARM, with their nimble fighters and long range battleships that can hammer enemy's to dust from distance? Or will you fight on the side of CORE, with a fleet of massive battleships, meant to crush the enemy to submission through sheer force?
Command your fleet and bases with strategy and tactic. Its on you to build a mixed fleet out of tiny but fast fighters, strong destroyers up to gigantic battleships which will destroy the enemy frontal, or sneak behind the enemies front with your stealthed or cloaked special space navy. Of course you can make it the other way by defending your base with defences for all kind of units, including huge battle stations fireing out of seven explosive weapons and concentrate your skill for your economy.
Only some of the Features included in this modification:
- Two unique races with more than 140 different units.
- More than 6 ship types with a lot of different ships for all types. By name fast fighters, deadly bombers, tough orbital defence systems, fast reloading frigates, strong cruiser and huge, well armed battleships.
- Most units are able to lose weapons and Hull parts.
- 3 tech levels allowing you to build everything from fusion reactors to massive, armored battle stations.
- Intelligent weapon turrets. Small anti fighter weapons don├óÔé¼Ôäót aim at big battleships or huge siege guns don├óÔé¼Ôäót target small fighters to be fully loaded, when their real targets get in range.
- Well thought ├óÔé¼┼ôpaper-scissor-rock├óÔé¼┬Ø balance system: Every single unity type has its role in the battles. To put only some examples, a group of small fighters can hunt a single battleship with ease, but covered with some frigates, the fighters will go down in seconds. If you want to destroy a base, there is nothing more useful than a horde of bombers and battleships. To shoot the bombers you will need some anti bomber fighters or fast fireing flak turrets, while you can use fighters or big defence systems for taking down the battleships.
- To bring these battles as near as possible to you, the graphic and sounds are all well chosen and designed.
- Be smart, be silent, be fast. Will you sneak through the dark of space or will you approach brazenly, with your fleet for all to see? Or will you decide the path of guile, and slip through the enemy's defense's with covert telaportation technology.
- Most weapons aren't fully rotatable, so it's useful to attack slow ships from behind, bringing you the full advantage of your weapons while the opponent's weapons aren├óÔé¼Ôäót able to fire backward.
- Unique space maps especially designed for Final Frontier, to put the battles into the environment, they shall be placed.
This mod is under constant development and is often updated by new fixes, balance changes, new sounds, graphics and units. At the moment there is still the idea of a third race├óÔé¼┬ª
Are you prepared for ├óÔé¼┼ôThe Next Generation Of War├óÔé¼┬Ø?

Nice additions and addendum's (and fixing of some mistakes on my part when it comes down to the unit count
) all in all, and to spell check it, just run it through Microsoft Word...or if you have it, Open office.
no 'bad' sentence's, really, and if i didn't already know that FF was awesome, i would think it was awesome based off of reading that!
