Why are all of the springie autohosts so laggy now?

Springie hosts hosted on the spring server*

Ever since the recent upgrade or whatever, the autohosts have been super laggy for 'Murrika players.

I assume that goes for the entire continent. Any reason why? They are around 500 - 900 ping from the US.

Lately - that is, for past few weeks - the lobby server has been very laggy for me also and apparently to some other Finns too.

Springie has always been laggy. Is it bc of the servers of bc of the code in springie?

I call BS on that jools. The springie servers ran fine for years, I used to have them running gundam and outside of a few occasional slowdowns they ran well.

Lags were caused by NS2 server I run. It only uses 1/8 cores but i set it to realtime priority which interfered with other things apparently.

I'm surprised the zk players weren't complaining. I was in a zk game the other day and me and the rest of the people on this side of the puddle were all getting 500 - 1000 fluctuating ping. I find that kind of lag pretty much impossible to play with :-/

Thanks for looking into it. I'm just surprised that everyone stayed so quiet about it *scratches head*

Okay, maybe my criticism was unfair. That's just my experience from using springie though. And spads runs on my work computer and it only takes about 40 Mb memory, and I think the bandwidth is quite low too.

Jools, you should understand, springie (or spads) does no hosting at all..
Springie is just the guy that sits on the lobby and generates script for spring dedicated server basically...

Once in game springie does nothing.. it cannot cause more or less lag.

Dedicated servers do the work of relaying UDP packets around.

All the springie-type autohosts you see around lobby (incl. all ZK hosts) are just 1 springie process that uses next to no cpu and ram.

I don't get it though. If the connection is basically direct, why so high of ping? If I ping the spring server directly, it is 165ms, give or take a few.

Why so high once in game? It's not just me either, it's other people the zk hosts as well.
