Some people quit too early

Post by jellyman »

I played a game of 2 vs 2 on swamp island (cool map whoever made it). I go early level 1 brawlers and raid enemy, with moderate results, as they haven't forgotten to put up some anti air.

Oponent A sends a party including his com onto my island to build a guardian and make life miserable for me. He tries to prepare well with more than enough anti air. But I've chosen the right time to switch to ships and have 2 destroyers and a squad of skeeters. His com is caught between two destroyers and a line of 3 llts and nowhere to go. Kaboom.

He still has his base in tact, but quits straight away. His partner takes his units, says omg what a total newb, self destructs all his units, leaves the game for the lobby and makes a big whinge about having had 10 useless partners in a row.

When they quit, both teams had roughly equal resources. I think we had the upper hand, but this was a seriously disgraceful response.

That's the nice thing about a ranking system like in wc3 - people don't quit! Of course, it has like a million problems, including;
elitism

loss because of lag

cheating

there is a bad version of a mod and but you don't realise what unit has been made stupidly good and lose like five games before you work it out.

So what am I suggesting? Nothing, don't change a thing!

but that wont change anything, we will still have dozens of new guys that will quit in a sec...
Normally about 1/3 or 1/4 of the ppl in the lobby have the lowest rank (i suppose new guys )

Meh, never thought id say this... cringe... but I agree with Mat :)
new guys will inevitably quit especially if they get spanked 5 mins in by a vet (most people on this thread appear to be)
Give them a chance if you dont want them to quit... or just play games with reliable players that you know and love......like me, hehe
From personal experience Ive played with few players above 3 chevs who will quit when they find themselves on the backfoot early on, most people at this rank know by this point winning is still a strong possibility even with an early disadvantage...
Dont be wimpy... find some decent opponents and rank your games with a star... let the noobs play other noobs and improve their skills, then eventully there will be a larger pool of skillfull players to have awesome games with... don't play against complete beginners if you want a good game...simple as that...

well thats a fair truth , allthough most of the times the good players dont come to your game and a certain inbalance is imposed.
im just calling for a bit of sportsmanship, if you know you're loosing or youre just totally lost, accept it and resign respectfully(im not actually calling for you to congrat the winner, as you might be a little angry..).

it depends on the cirmustances tbh...
i mean noob quits vs veteran- fair play
veteran quits vs veteran AFTER saying that "u only won coz of...bugs...and...stuff... :P"-NOT fair play
veteran sees that the game is over (vs veteran) and quits saying 'gg' or something-fair play
veteran quits vs veteran due to boredom- NOT fair play
veteran quits vs veteran due to food- fair play
and thats only IMO anyway...don't try to force the case

I think that that is a pretty fair set of circumstances right there. Also, have any vets invited new players into a room just for a less-than-serious battle? I've done this, and I think it makes Spring a bit more enjoyable for the new player when they don't have much pressure on them in their first game, while they are learning for themselves what appears good or not.

i hate that. I have only quit one game and said so before because i had to leave. i gave my base to my ally and told everyone else i have to leave. we were getting our buts kicked but still. one of our allies got attacked by zippers which cut through him and he just dumped without a word. ive only played a few games and when i play with people that dont seem to do too well, i give them pointers.

last night, i played a 2v2 and my ally didnt connect so it was a 2v1. naturally i thought that theyd come after me asap to take advantage so i quickly spread out. after 10 minutes of nothing, i check them out and theyre just digging in in one little corner. so i quickly spread out to corner them in. this goes on for about an hour and a half. i do little raids but nothing big. towards the end, they attack with BB's and nukes so i send my navy in and wipe the out edges of the base and right as they destroy that, my epoch arrives to finish them off. they just dump out of the game once i destroy their silo. come on, 2v1, spread out and take advantage of your numbers and spread out. it seems like that happened all day, when i got beat, and it was pretty bad usually, i stayed in until the end. everyone i played against dumped out. it gets pretty annoying by the end.

*edit*
one game, i got attacked by brawlers by krogothe and it took out most of my base. before jumping out, i congratulated him on the good tactics and told everyone good game.
