skipping screen issue

Post by wizard8873 »

Ok, when i go to play the game and try to scroll around the screen, it skips a little. like it moves for forward and then moves back a bit. its not just the screen but also the units that to that. its like as if i was playing a game online with lag but this also happens on local games. i updated my drivers and it worked fine the first time but then started doing it again. is anyone else experiencing this?

spec are:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ @ 2.1
Dual Geforce 6800GS's @ 460/1150
2GB(2 X 1GB sticks) dual channel RAM

other programs running in the background are winamp, aim, fraps, zonealarm and nvidia firewall, nvtemplogger, gigabyte easytune, software for my keyboard and mouse. I closed all the programs and still have this issue. I turned all of the settings down and turned down AA and AF. shadows are the only thing that I turned off and everything except sound and particles is turned up all the way. sound and particles are at about half. I am running in SLI but I tried without it and the issue still persists. any ideas?

Sorry, your computer is too fast for spring ;)

It is probably caused by big difference framerate and the internal game update rate. Internally there are always 30 game updates/sec, and units positions get interpolated to make it look like there are more than 30 update/sec (For example when the graphics are rendered with 60 fps)

It's all just estimating, so it can happen that you see small discontinuancies (Is that a real word?) when the estimated position of the unit is replaced by the actual game position and the estimation begins again.

A lot of games have this btw, shooters for example, but then the camera movement is more diverse than when you're scrolling in spring

And let's not forget that you have a lot of background programs running that can also stall the system for a short time.
