FAQ/MOD TO PLAY IN TaW 2006 Open

Post by k994 »

Yes, to swiftspear's questions it is a TAS tourney. The rules are on the mini site (http://free.hostultra.com/~lifeboards/t ... index.html). And about the mod....come to think of it i hadnt really given the mod much thought. so i'll run a poll and see what people want! if you select other please specify which mod you want in a reply to this thread

I'd be satisfied playing XTA, AA or AA barebones... I didn't vote because any of those is a viable option in my opinion. TA mod for spring isn't that strong... I'd rather play UH in that case.

AA, definitely. XTA, in my very humble opinion, has some outstanding balance issues that, while they don't ruin gameplay, would tend to discourage its use in a tournament environment.

In other words, an XTA tourney would be a race to see who can build more Brawlers faster.

SWTA is a great mod, but this is a TAS tournament. Most TAS players haven't put the time in to be widely proficient at SWTA, and SWTA players should be set up against other SWTA players who can acctually challenge them, not people who have never really even played much of the mod before. Everyone has played XTA and AA.

XTA is more competitive and raw. AA has some small haggard balancies.

i dont think that is true, however lets not start a flamewar upon this.
(i do have in mind that xta brawlers are quite strong)

tbh AA's air balance is awesome. <3 the screamer. <3 the superweapons. <3 the way flak actually has a AoE...
XTA balance with AA air balance = the win

If youve got a brawler problem, build flak towers, its quite simple really.

Im not too much of a fan of AA. As the first time i ran it, it crashed my comp and deleted my maps, that was my first and last experance with it.

You realize, the AA mod can't delete your maps? It isn't even remotely connected to the maps. As far as crashing your comp...blame the mod if you'd like (though it is an engine bug that allowed a 'bad' mod to let it crash).

I vote AA without a doubt.

The proof is in the pudding, i DL AA, comp goes down, maps dissappear. and anyway, XTA gives a more competative feel to things.

Why not play plain old TA, and see everyone struggle to get things going

Last time it was checked, there was lots of TA balance (bad called ota, as ota is without cc expansion pack) fans in this forums.

I even would play if its based in ta.

just to recall old times!..

Im sure it would be twisted good to see the battles!

and then after the flashes massacre, ambusher abuse, maverick's ownage, fido's overpowerness, AK torture, is over, get back to our great spring mods and cry of happyness while the proper balance is restored.

okok, ill just shutup.

It is impossible for AA or any other mod to delete your maps, that's just ridiculous.
