that would make sense. i can not imagine him doing antything to deserve a ban in the first time, though. he seems to be too nice for that.Licho wrote:He is trying to avoid current ban, I believe.

To get banned from this community you'd more or less have to be a royal class A douchebag.hoijui wrote:that would make sense. i can not imagine him doing antything to deserve a ban in the first time, though. he seems to be too nice for that.Licho wrote:He is trying to avoid current ban, I believe.

Re: Hide my country
No, it's not. Your country is derived from your IP, it's a little bit possible to spoof your IP, but it's reasonably difficult. It's not a feature you can expect to be implemented into spring any time soon, since it makes moderation more difficult, and is generally in conflict with the way the internet works on a fundamental level (work around involve making a computer in between you and the one you are talking with intercept and re-transmit all requests, or just make our software system prioritize anonymity, but our system won't ever do that as it would make our job harder)Fuel wrote:Hello all,
Is there any way I can hide my country such that it is not visible for other players, no matter which lobby they are using?
Thanks.
Re: Hide my country
A bit off-topic, but ive seen some people do it with TAS client in the pass, using a proxy.

Yes, proxy will work, but it's not encouraged (and a good majority of popular proxies are already banned by default)scifi wrote:A bit off-topic, but ive seen some people do it with TAS client in the pass, using a proxy.
Re: Hide my country
I think you guys are thinking about this in the wrong way.
Regardless of his reasons, it seems reasonable to be able to not show your country nor IP* to any other player in the lobby or game except for the host - which tends to be the autohost bot or the lobby server, usually trusted entities.
If I'm not mistaken, both spring lobby and the game server are fully centralized entities, therefor except for those servers, there should be no direct traffic going between any of the participants in the network, so those participants would thus not be able to access IP-based information by default.
The user could be able to opt not to have his country visible to other players - it should still be logged by lobby and autohost bots and thus wouldn't really be useful for any ban dodging.
*I assume IP isn't visible as it is.

Re: Hide my country
Not sure, but IMO the country information is "generated" (geoip) and stored on the lobby/uber/LS server.
With an interface to it, a flag could be set to withhold that information from lobby clients.
Easiest would be to add that interface as a protocol extension to the lobby protocol, so it could be set through the users lobby client.

what dan said
Re: Hide my country
The flags are unreliable as it is, my bots and myself all show up as question marks, for a long time it claimed I was American, and I apparently took up residence in france and germany for brief stints.
All of which happened either in a UK datacenter or on a UK home broadband connection

Re: Hide my country
The only reason I want country hidden is because there are lots of jerks picking up on the country where there's no other way or reason to pick on. So they start addressing racist insults.
It doesn't usually bothers me.
It happens to everyone, no matter what country is, so I don't feel targeted :)
But what does bothers me is that admins don't give a shit and just allow it.
I did manage to confuse the client at one moment.
As someone pointed out, the servers already log my IP, so I don't see why I shouldnt be able to hide my IP from client.

Re: Hide my country
That will solve nothing. Jerks are incredibly adapt at being jerks.
Re: Hide my country
If they really want to annoy you, hiding your country won't help at all. They could even make fun of you, saying you're afraid to show your country etc.Fuel wrote:The only reason I want country hidden is because there are lots of jerks picking up on the country where there's no other way or reason to pick on. It's convenient to know where people are from, to know which language you can use to talk to them without having to ask for example...Fuel wrote:As someone pointed out, the servers already log my IP, so I don't see why I shouldnt be able to hide my IP from client.

Re: Hide my country
There are servers that have reasonably many admins and do their best to maintain similar guidelines as #main has.Fuel wrote:The only reason I want country hidden is because there are lots of jerks picking up on the country where there's no other way or reason to pick on. But it's a discouraging job. You might have 5 people who are friends together in your server and of whom one is bursting out such insults which I wont even bother to quote here, and when you ban that person, the 4 of his friends leave too and everyone else after them.
Racism/chauvinism/nationalism, trolling or not, is really something I find insanely disheartening when trying to enjoy my time online.

I wonder where the OP is from.
My guess would be Poland.
