Why is the FOW invisible?

Post by Timmy »

Is there any way to make the FOW visible in Spring the way it is in most RTS games? In other words all you can see is bright and all you can't see is slightly darker.

I know there's an option to make the FOW more visible, but other than being red and kind of annoying it also takes away the shadows in the game.

Press L. This is not enabled by default because there are people that think shadows are more important than intel awareness.

Reason I don't use FoW is because I prefer normal lighting instead of plunging certain areas into darkness. Only time I ever use it is on maps that are too bright.

I just don't see why you can't have both.

There are two views to enable/disable separately:
-LOS view -> shows LOS ranges
-radar view -> shows ranges of radar/jammer

Usually when you press L both LOS and radar view get activated which is a bit confusing imo. So you will probably want to disable radar view and play with LOS view only. When needed you can then press ; to activate radar view.

You mean activate *show ranges of the radar view*?

Will this one keep the shadows and lighting the same while activated? Or will it mess with the colors and disable shadows like pressing "L" does?

yes, http://widgets.springrts.de/index.php#175 will disable shadows.
it basically presses L automatically at gamestart so you do not have to.

you can use this maybe:
http://widgets.springrts.de/index.php#100
these shadows are not as realistic but work with LOS.

Press semicolon after L to unmess the colors.
