Computer Hardware Help

Post by SanadaUjiosan »

A friend recently mailed me his old video card (way better than mine) but when I started the installation I noted that the instructions say it is recommended to have a power supply whose currentrating for 12V is 30A or better. I looked on the little chart on my power supply and it says +12 V is 25A.

I know this is probably a big fat "doesn't work!" but it is close, it says "recommended", and I don't have money for a new power supply. :-) Can some people with experience building PCs give me some input. Am I going to need a better power supply?

You already installed it and nothing blew up?
I would try it* and then in the BIOS or with some tool have a look at the values of the power supply. (Not sure if all BIOS/boards have this but if mine has, then probally yes)

*because its not my computer :-)

No, I haven't installed it. I actually need some kind of auxiliary power supply cable for it or something, which I don't have. I'm just checking if it'll even work before I spend money.

That is a good idea about the BIOS, I'll do that when I can. My PC is currently incapacitated because I got too curious and broke some kind of seal between the CPU and its heatsink  Gotta fix that soon as I can...
