You know, when I first saw your minimap, I thought that the map design would actually have those features and writing on it.

... I was just thinking that while your "Real-Life" map is cool, another way to do it would be to go the complete other direction, and have your map very abstract, with words printed clearly on the ground, and make players feel like instead of looking at real warfare, they are looking at a general's table-top command (hell, you could make the skybox look like an officer's room with generals looking down on it). I think that would be quite cool too.
You could still make things look green, but it would mean that instead of making photo-realistic houses, you could make simplified houses. And instead of having strange metal patches, you could just have a cross on the ground, looking as if it was drawn with a pen.

Anyway, just another possible way to do things.

Either way, with the real or abstract map design, I think you need exaggurate the hills and the valleys, so that the map is less flat, and to give more focus to holding high-ground, etc.

But... IRL... battles aren't all fought on areas with insane hills. If this WWII sim-ish thing can't handle a real-world map and have it play at least kind've realistically, then that's a problem with the game design, imho. I'd get into that topic s'more, but Spike's been working on this mod for ages, and I'm not going to be a jerk and lecture him about his own game design ;) At any rate, what I'm seeing in that map looks really cool to me, and I hope to see it available to download soon :)

There is a decent difference between the highest and lowest point, but no very steep areas. There are, lots of ridges between the fields which will have small walls or hedges on them, ditches nears the roads and clumps and lines of trees. These things are intended to have great tactical influence as they can be either obstacles or cover depending on how you used them.
