When I start a new game, there are no units at all.
Am I forgetting to do something or what?
I have TA installed on my D:\ and not C:\, would that be a problem?
missing units?

No, you can instal or even copy the TASpring directory where ever you like.raumarik wrote:I have TA installed on my D:\ and not C:\, would that be a problem?
If want the simplest possible test, run the spring.exe not the client. At the be server prompt click yes. Then chose the commanders option, then a map. Wait while the map loads, then hit enter and you should see your commander, select him and you should be able to build stuff. This will prove everything is ok with the install, but wont be much fun as you opponent will not build anything.
If your game starts and you see a map with trees or rocks or somethin that looks like a game and you dont see any unit then press CTRL+C and you'll get selectet your Commander - the most important unit in the game. He is the only unit you have at this moment. Probably he's located somwere on that huge map. With him you can build other units (by selecting him you'll get a menu in the left side of the screen - press the arrows of the bottom to see other options).
There is a big improvement you can do to windows 98 or any 9x widnwos OS 95/ME/98/98SE, which is to do one of the following:
Upgrade to 2000/XP
Replace it with a copy of linux (much better than any 9x OS, whereas some people can argue XP/NT/2000 are better they have no basis for sayign 9x OS's ar ebtter), and use WINE to play spring and other windows progs/compile the linux version
Use a dual boot setup and ahve 98 and Linux running together
Build your own OS
Use ReactOS (GPL windows remake)
Run one of those operating systems in a virtual machine (if you have a computer fast enough to do this why do you have 98 installed?)
Give up
Use windows 98 and you are guaranteed problems, whatsmore the majority of those problems cannto be fixed. I recommend you stick to 98 era games if you wish to stick with 98, and no money for XP/2000 is no excuse because linux is free and so is reactOS and wine, and some are a lot easier to install than windows.
Other than that spring is known no to run correctly udner widnwos 98, and I'm sure the many NTA kernel only programs that wont run on pre-2000 systems are enough to upgrade anyways (hmmm some of these run udner WINE & ReactOS too)
Sorry if I'm a little 'off' here but people continuing to use Windwos 98 have no excuse unless they're AOL users who ahev no other ISP and are stuck on dialup and thus are forced to sue AOL software for which there are no non-windwos versions, and they just happen to be running ti on a crappy old computer that cant run anythign but 98 because it's messed up (my grandfather has a computer with 2GB hd 64MB sdram and a 220mhz cpu, that runs rather well with a stripped down version of widnwos XP Proffesional that it came with (no fancy themes or fade in menus etc, without all the bloat that comes turned on by default, XP arguably runs faster than 98, and ahs a lower sysrequirement of 200mhz, microsoft has said 233mhz and 64mb themselves, and I've sene it running on such lowend systems before, systems that i had trouble runnign OTA under but XP worked alright with))
