I'm a little curious about the recently announced requirement that all spring sounds be stereo. Given that everything except music is 3D positioned I don't see how stereo sound even makes sense. At best it's a whole extra channel that has to be processed, mixed or ignored but provides absolutely zero information (if the sound is coming from the left of the camera then both channels will play on the left speaker).
So what's up with that?

Where did you hear this? All sounds should be mono...

Before you posted that I went looking for the announcement / commit and couldn't find it. I guess my memory is playing tricks on me. So you're saying the announcement was actually that we don't support stereo sources?

OpenAL does not support stereo sources in 3d playback, sill they are supported in non-3d mode.
