Forum splitting (Games Release, Game WiP)

Post by Karl »

I think it would be much better this way and better to see if a Mod is ready or not instead of clumping them all in one Forum topics and getting confused of what is released and what not.
Of course you could add an Prefix to it but not everyone use it and then.

This is not a good idea:

all games are WIP
not all games are released.
what games run in the current? what games don't? omg can we have a subforum for only mods with stolen content? what about isolating projects without independent IP or by license.

I would be in favor of a release forum except too many people release half baked alphas and then disappear. I don't think further cluttering the forum is a good idea.

I have already proposed that the content development games/mods be split into release and development subforums that way the development discussion is just that. This proposal was rejected.

"ready" is hard to define.
A spring game is either "in development"or "dead" ;)
Also the games forum is actually called "Content Creation" so it is about modding questions and not so much a meeting place for players.
For that you can make your own webpage or ask aegis to open a sub forum.

This isn't moddb though it is a forum for development. If you want to know about say, recent advances in grts you go elsewhere. I do not post them on this site.

I dont really like indiedb/moddb but accounts are easy to set up and you get a gallery, downloads, comment function etc.
If you need a place to present your game you can also abuse the wiki to create a homepage for your game. Just dont create hundreds of sub pages ;) )
Game makers keep creating "technical" threads in their subforum that is why "dev" and "playing" is mixed. Well, it is their own choice to do so.

The games page currently features all games that are "ready" to be played. (plus one that is unreleased)
You would never get a complete list of games on the forum because some games have already moved to their own forums.

most of these links are old posts.

I do the release posts here because people asked specifically for them.

I posted my work on the grts page as it is related to the plethora of advertising threads.

The map updates are relevant because the ones I am "porting" to gundam are being done so because their texture is severely dated which benefits the community.

the kind of updates you guys don't get

Stop being lazy. I made the effort years before smoth.net... http://cs.selu.edu/~ssmith/GUNDAM/ baw etc. you could do a site like this on geoshitties etc. also indiedb/moddb, gives you a good setup for posting news, images and files also can give you a lot of exposure. what would I know though, I am only the highest ranking spring project there and still people leave gundam for ba citing lack of games available.

Well, as cliche as it sounds, indiedb/moddb/desura are a great place to make your internet home. You can even buy a domain name for 5 bucks a year and point http://www.myawesomegameforspring.com to the indiedb/moddb/desura page.

Quoting just to stress it.

There are Spring w.i.p. games with tons of content and playability than other, finished, Spring games. There are Spring projects that are long complete yet won't even run because Spring evolved.

I can provide hosting, and a copy of Wordpress with a relevant theme would get you miles ahead. If you need phpbb or bbpress that can be arranged too.

'Ready' can be defined as released, no longer entirely WIP. I think that definition would work. Although I doubt there are enough games to warrant separate forums for WIP and release.

also the three non-major *A projects have had their own forums for years.

Zk doesn't yet and I think evo has it's own forum

ZK: http://zero-k.info/Forum
EvoRTS: http://www.desura.com/games/evolution-rts/forum

BA etc have subforums under project subforums, and there's a second ZK forum in there too
