ZK errors.

Re: ZK errors.
You dont have to do any of this. Just change "springdata" entry in engine config. Lobby listens to it.
Re: ZK errors.
Download the latest zK in .sdz form from here:se5a wrote:does downloading the zk sdz and sticking it in the spring/games folder not work for zk?
I want to be able to play zk from spring lobby.
http://packages.springrts.com/builds/?C=M;O=D
and put it into your usual mods\ folder. That will work will SL too.
Though you will have to manage the planetwars/buying unlocks stuff from your web browser instead of from lobby.
I had that too when I was using zkl. I think the reason is that unitsync.dll is scanning all your maps & mods. The time before Spring would actually show a loading screen (from there it was only moments until ingame) was up to a minute and I would always get kicked because people thought I crashed/timed out.ZK lobby finds maps in the location I WANT them, however spring takes a good 30 seconds to start - before I even get a splash screen, it sits there and I think it's not done anything.
If you have more maps that will obviously take a bit longer but even on a crappy computer with hundreds of maps should take few seconds max. Now when I was using zkl I ended up with having all maps twice (in normal spring install folder and in "my documents") Maybe that or how zkl stores the maps (seperated into many small files) makes the scanning take much longer?
afaik it always does that. That way you can play replays of old versions or mods that need different version. (never tested myself but that is the idea)wait, ZK lobby creates the whole damn engine in the mygames/spring
I'm guessing this is because I installed spring origionaly as portable?
Re: ZK errors.
If you install spring as portable, ZKL has NO WAY to know it exists on your computer!
Thats why it wont use it!
If you install it normally, it will reuse spring engine and its maps folder...

Re: ZK errors.
Yeah I guessed, that, thought I'd tried re-installing spring engine with non-portable. I'll do another cl\omplete un-install, delete, then re-install. - probibly have to wait till next weekend though. If you install spring as portable, ZKL has NO WAY to know it exists on your computer!

can we not have zkl ask when installing zkl?
it does? cool.If you install it normally, it will reuse spring engine and its maps folder...
Oh it does? Does it download new maps to there too?You dont have to do any of this. Just change "springdata" entry in engine config. Lobby listens to it.
Code: Select all

so why does it not take a long time when I've not changed the springdata line?
also note I'm running an i7 hexicore with 6gb here, not really a slow machine.
Re: ZK errors.
Spring unitsync just takes long to process pool/packages first time. Its instant next time for me.
Regarding folder, fully controllable folder/portable install of ZKL is in todo.

Re: ZK errors.
Are you having the same problem with comander not spawning, scripts not running, F11 takes screenshots?MyJuliet wrote:Spring lobby will not let me reset the default configuration file. I think if I go looking for it's folder, it's probibly easy ...

good to know, will it be ready for the next spring engine update?Licho wrote: Regarding folder, fully controllable folder/portable install of ZKL is in todo.
not been my experience so far, maybe the problem is not unitsynch.Spring unitsync just takes long to process pool/packages first time. Its instant next time for me.
I'll have another play around with it tonigh and note the steps I've taken. hopefully get to the bottom of the origional problem I'm having.
Re: ZK errors.
Problem is in spring/unitsync.
Cannot be elsewhere.
Once spring starts lobby does not interfere with it in any way.
ZKL is unique in that it never touches unitsync..
Other lobbies do use unitsync, that makes them sometimes slow and unresponsive but unitsync is usually in "scan done" state for them when they start spring.
Try deleting archivecache file in spring folder, thats used by unitsync to store cached data.

Re: ZK errors.
Ok seems to be working fine now,
must have been a file somewhere that didn't get deleted when I tried re-installing last time.
did have a little problem with springsettings.cfg.. meh I'll post the whole process:
uninstalled spring engine.
deleted spring directory from program files.
uninstalled zkl
deleted the spring directory from my games
rebooted.
installed spring 0.82.7 (not portable)
ran spring.exe (from programfiles\spring) came up within 2 seconds.
wondered wtf I didn't have a springsettings.cfg
ran springsettings.exe saved.
still not springsettings.cfg
coppied BA from where I'd keeped the spring data into programfiles\spring\games
and DSD from maps to maps.
ran spring.exe lunched BA + DSD looked ok, F11 brings up the widget list.
exited spring
still no springsettings.cfg
created a new txt file, renamed it springsettings.cfg
fired up springsettings.exe closeed it hey! the new txt file now has spring settings stuff in it!
wtf... oh well it worked.
made SpringData=F:\SpringData and some other changes. (hardware threadcount)
deleted the mod and map I'd stuck in the programfiles/spring
ran spring.exe seeign all the mods, seeing all the maps zk works!
ran zk lobby and let it install
ran zk lobby, it started downloading 0.82.7, when nearly finished downloading UAC popped up with tmpE7B6.tmp.exe
- figure this is somethign to do with zkl, but didn't have time to look, if it is you might want to make it obvious that it's zk/spring related.

Re: ZK errors.
when there is no springsettings.cfg present next to springsettings.exe / spring.exe, spring creates the config file somewhere in %APPDATA%.
if the .cfg is present next to the executables, spring thinks it is in portable mode and uses this file.

Re: ZK errors.
oookay, nowonder I couldn't find it, I was looking for springsettings.cfg - in the appdata it's called springsettings.conf
also, why's it in roaming? shouldn't it be in local?
