paralyzer doesn't always paralyze

Post by Caydr »

Any ideas why paralyzing weapons in spring only actually paralyze maybe one out of five times usually?

i assumed that units had a 'EMP health' which didn't recover or recovered slowly and that paralysers did 'EMP damage' because the spiders take ages to paralyse gollies (or krogs  )

It's random though. Sometimes it works on the first hit. This is sorta-OK normally, but in some cases I want a unit to ALWAYS paralyze.

I'm afraid I can't tell you the exact details for how the paralyzers works, but this should hopefully be enough to work it out. Eh, I'm not sure I remember everything exactly either.

A unit won't get paralyzed until the damage done by the paralyzing weapon exceeds the health of the unit. This "paralyzation health" constantly regenerates though, and I also belive it has a lower limit (not sure about that though). This is the reason to why some units are instantly paralyzed while other units needs to be hit many times.
If I remember correctly it is regenerated every second, and once the "paralyzation health" goes above 0 the units becomes unparalyzed once again.

So if you have a unit with 1000 MaxDamage and its being hit by a paralyzer that does 300 "damage", it has to be hit 4 times by such a weapon to become paralyzed, and the delay between the shots can't be too large or else it will have regenerated.

Far from it....
A paralyzed kroggy is dead... how much fidos would you need to kill one, for example? A krogoth isnt really a very good target for them....

Spiders can be devastating if they arent expected.

Superunits, such as krogoth or Epoch, are all but immune to all kinds of paralyzer weapon in AA - as they were in OTA.

Superunits aren't immune to paralyser in OTA. Commander are, however (immunetoparalyser=1; or something in the unit.fbi)

In OTA:OTA, the only superunit is immune. In OTA:AA, this is kept and expanded to Orcone (I cannot confirm on the lesser lvl 3 units at this time).

Compare the effort of getting 15-30 spiders to just paralize one unit without dieing and not counting on any other units killing them.
