HTC Evo 3D released wiith unlocked bootloader!

FUCKYES!

http://www.phonearena.com/news/HTC-EVO- ... er_id19170

As some of you know, I have an Evo4G, which to many of you it probably doesn't seem like any big deal. Let me put it this way. There are people who have an evo, and people that don't. If you've never used one you couldn't possibly fathom how incredibly powerful they are. Even the latest iPhail pales in comparison.

Well there has always been controversy over rooting. I myself rooted my evo about a month ago, because me and my brother went on a week long trip and by rooting my phone I can use it as a wireless router. Combine that with 4G and it's the equivalent of having a 7mb/1mb cable modem in the car with you.

You can do pretty much anything with these phones. it really is incredible. Well, the reason this is big news is the fact that HTC is unlocking the bootloader, meaning that rooting will be uber simple. You can install custom roms, operating systems... whatever the hell you want.

I'm with sprint, and it's already pretty well known that sprint doesn't actually give a crap if you have a rooted phone (plus the court case last year pretty much sets the precedent that the provider has no say anymore on how you use the phone). Anyway, for us open source geeks, an unlocked bootloader is pretty much a slam dunk for Open Sauce. Even better, HTC wields immense power as being the creator of the evo (the evo is available for other providers as well under different names, for example, the HTC thunderbolt for verizon wireless is essentially an evo4g (not quite as good as the actual evo4g, but close enough for it not to really matter)), so the phone companies/insurance providers have no real choice but to just follow along.

Arcing ropes of jizm have been shot.

no hidden limitations? :? No rolling bandwithblackout warning by phonecompanys, trying to play out your cable-car traffic vs. average-joes-handy? World suddenly gone mad? Wheres the hook?

i see what you did there!

From across the street it looks like you are using an iPhone.
In reality you were checking out the newest open source indie anti cancer software but people will think you are just playing Farmville :/

Currently rooting involves using exploits to bypass the built in bootloader which is normally locked and rooting involves a very real possibility of bricking your phone. Now, that the bootloader is coming unlocked, the danger is removed and there is no longer any need to exploit the bootloader. Moreover, you don't need a crack anymore to flash custom roms.

well, i suppose thats cool-ish then

can you not get ROM manager though for those phones? app to one-click-install clockworkmod and then you can DL new roms over data or wifi

also why are you such a HTC fan; what makes them so much better than other phones?
