Re: Decline in the number of players
There are no games for the Spring Engine which we can consider popular or even continuously playable - none are functionally complete. AI, Lobby, Options, Single Player and the rest are very important for commercial strategy and tactics games and nothing on this engine offers all of that, particularly not in a seamless user friendly package.
Well, except for Kernel Panic. Kernel Panic has other problems, not having the widespread promotion and thus critical acclaim to attract a stable userbase.

Re: Decline in the number of players
right click and left click on what? It does not need an installer but should at least be just 1 file that you unzip and tada.why it needs any istaller ?u just right click and then left click to dwl it.. its small game, doesnt need any special installer.
Just because you have arranged to the lack of that in Spring does not make it good.spring options ? most spring games dont have that :'
spring options has stuff that is not relevant for THIS. (nano particles, terrain detail, trees,..)
Now it would be a bit strange to find a "select railgun" button in Call of Duty just because it is build on the Quake engine. (the first one at least)
And well, lobby and AI is of course important to players.
Actually it is taken for granted nowadays and not even noticed unless it is missing.
Does not matter if the gameplay is fun when other areas are so seriously lacking that you hardly get to the gameplay.games purpose is to provide fun. THIS does it.
I know. You know. New players dont know.it got maps, small space, and big space (i think medium either) it doesnt need any special maps, its just picture of space.
Thats why you want your page to show if on google ie "free WW2 rts" and not on "Spring S44"own website do jackshit coz it drowns in google results and ppl simply wont google exact name.
Needie summed it up well,tl;dr:
A game is so much more then just the stuff you find a in a .sdz file.

I'm no stranger to sarcasm, Sarge.Wombat wrote:good u do a lot lucky !
I'm not saying I do much, but I don't tell other people they should be doing either.
Re: Decline in the number of players
but people do come and play BA and NOTA and other games on the spring "platform". Whats wrong with more of these people?
nubs report a string of issues and niggles that get in the way of playing time and again. So this sort of thread becomes a list of things to change. that and people brushing them aside and insisting they have now identified the one true problem! or the one true solution!
no-one demanded anything did they? isn't it just.. feedbackluckywaldo7 wrote:I mean random people demanding things when they contribute nothing in the first place.

Re: Decline in the number of players
do i really need to give example ? :}There are no games for the Spring Engine which we can consider popular or even continuously playable - none are functionally complete
dunno why would u say such irrelevant stuff.AI, Lobby, Options, Single Player and the rest are very important for commercial strategy and tactics games
strange, becouse as far as i know we got TAS with big 'options' button. AI (which we got anyway) and SP (which we got either) are not that much important in multiplayer games, right ? >>this engine offers all of that, particularly not in a seamless user friendly package.
dunno why would u even think to compete with commercial products.
what would u like to see ? there is nothing except resolution that THIS needs, spring options has stuff that is not relevant for THIS. (nano particles, terrain detail, trees,..)
but i do. and i will. i tell other ppl to stop complaining how humanity sux coz they dont play spring. i tell they should just go play the game themself to show other players that 'X' game exists. so content creators stop ragequit coz nobody play their stuff, even after lot of OMFGZOMGAMAZING @ forum.but I don't tell other people they should be doing either.
dunno why only ppl who do something should be allowed to give opinons. newcommers should be allowed to log in only when they give model or what ? i understand that if i make models for 2 games i can tell others they sux ? THX !

Re: Decline in the number of players
Because they have no perspective, wombat. People complain about vague things like, 'pathing sucks' or 'models are ugly, starcraft 2 has so much better', and 'why don't people make this game more like I want it to be.' These people have probably never looked at the engine source or made a model before.
Why doesn't NASA just open up some forums so random internet people can tell them how to do their jobs? Or else why don't governments just put up polls to decide all their policy? Because every random internet guy thinks he is best authority on everything and he isn't.

actually, yes please.do i really need to give example ? :}There are no games for the Spring Engine which we can consider popular or even continuously playable - none are functionally complete
I am certain there are numerous things to point out that maybe not make the game unplayable but decrease the fun/accessibility.
options relevant to the game, both general/graphics options and hotkeys.what would u like to see ?spring options has stuff that is not relevant for THIS. (nano particles, terrain detail, trees,..)
ie for THIS hotkeys: "select next captial ship" instead of "rotate building".
It is the game makers own fault if they never try to see the game from an outsiders perspective and then suddendly get hit by reality.so content creators stop ragequit coz nobody play their stuff, even after lot of OMFGZOMGAMAZING @ forum.
Even if feedback by players is vague it mostly is still clear what is wrong.
If you notice you can only get games started by talking newbs through download process & lobby, then maybe that areas need improvement etc.
Re: Decline in the number of players
well, no matter how lame it is, they are right and got reasons to think so. not that i like it or anything.People complain about vague things like, 'pathing sucks' or 'models are ugly, starcraft 2 has so much better', and 'why don't people make this game more like I want it to be.
when it comes to graphics options, there is not much to change rly. resolution etc. should be enough, not like that game can sux ur cpu dry.both general/graphics options and hotkeys.
@ hotkeys, well, maybe, but there is a lot of ppl who dont use hotkeys but still enjoy the game. somehow important but i dont think such thing makes the game any worse.
fact is, if dev has ever seen any point in further development of his game, it could be more user friendly. sadly, he didnt and he got right to.
well thats what i said in one of my first posts here, so i agree. It is the game makers own fault if they never try to see the game from an outsiders perspective and then suddendly get hit by reality.

i got [CRAZY IDEA] - if all these ppl who complain about ba8v8dsd could gather together and actually PLAY X game, im pretty sure they would end with full host (according to the big number of ppl complaining about badsd killing spring). that would attract new players as well (difficulties with finding host etc.etc. would end either)

Re: Decline in the number of players
welcome to 2009.if all these ppl who complain about ba8v8dsd could gather together
Did not work very good, there were 10 people max, after week it was zero.

Re: Decline in the number of players
well, thx for efforts. something like that should be bumbped every day. 10 ppl is still success, no ? and fact that it died ? well, complaining is more fun apperently.
---
uh oh, dont lock thread, another [CRAZY IDEA] coming, i can feel it.
dunno, maybe its time to change 'direction' ? apperently product that devs offered to players 'is not cool' ? lot of baw @ newcommers 'demanding' something. but in the end game is made for them, so maybe gameplay is really uninteresting and its time to change it ? (im not point at anyone, so spare me the drama well ok, small finger is shaking a bit)

Re: Decline in the number of players
You and I have been friends for many years and you know as well as I that this is not a complete package. Skirmish is insufficient singleplayer, you either need a coherent campaign or targeted missions - the latter only works if you can't really insert a story driven or episodic campaign; see Kernel Panic. Anyway, you are close as makes little difference, advertising and active players are most of the route ahead.Forboding Angel wrote:Evolution RTS playability scale:Neddie wrote:There are no games for the Spring Engine which we can consider popular or even continuously playable - none are functionally complete. Real time task management which draws all core game concepts from a preestablished feeder game which reached critical mass through dedicated social play. The example is useful, but it does not apply fully to RTT or RTS, in addition, LoL was very well advertised and was released in a complete primarily self-sufficient package which incorporated a lobby, a stable engine, a match making system, a ladder, limited/automatic options and setting scaling.momfreeek wrote:league of legends: online multiplayer only, 15000+ players
