Anyone who's got some previous work to show me (ie: can do what they say) and is offering help can have access to the repository.

As discussed earlier in this thread, the beta if released now wouldn't really be a beta, it'd be more of a demo. If I can get IW into a workable state I'd release it as a demo, it'd take a lot of gameplay checks and a lot more of an active team to get it into a state where I'd be able to genuinely respond to feedback from a beta (being the whole purpose of a beta). The purpose of the release would be more of a 'look how bloody close we are, just give us a hand to finish the final 10%'.

But yeah, I feel like further discussion in this thread isn't really going to achieve much, I just need to buy my laptop and get busy. The more we talk about it the more irate people will get, which is not the intention.

I know I may have just been a pain, but I do have a suggestion: Put in some cheats / a working dev console that is acessible. Even with that ewok (Star wars battlegrounds, I think, had an epic ewok).

Not to be pushy, but any progress? We here at the forum like to hear what's happening (its fun to watch progress, and plus it will generate more interest in your game to have progress well documented).

here's a macro.

so my vision is wonky right now but I'll try and give you the short version.

No one poops out a game over night. It takes a long time. SWIW is pretty much at a crawl right now. So please don't bump with "has there been any progress" or similar that is very annoying, esp when you are not willing to help. We have tons of people here who love to just pressure devs to hurry along and even more guys who have all the advice and suggestion but no will to work.

Unless you are doing work and need them to add something so you can continue, try and fight the urge to pester.

Ok, IMMA lay down for a while.

in case my rambling is unclear, warlord will post an update but at the very least try to be patient. I don't know what is going on even though I could look in the dev forums/svn and tell you I'll not bother because I feel that swiw should be given some patience. You can do what you want but you already know you are pestering so go with your gut next time.

I should say that it IS encouraging to pop in and say you are looking forward to stuff and hope all is going well. It is even more awesome if you want to pick up a hammer and do some actual work.

Yeah, I apologize. I shouldn't have posted that comment. If I offended anyone please forgive me. I am very excited for the game to be finished, and I was hoping for a progress report. Its fun to be able to check up on your fav software projects and see how it is coming along. Its very hard to be patient when you guys have SUCH A GREAT IDEA!

anyways... keep up the good work!

It won't get lost.

It will, however, age.

If they had put it on google code this wouldn't be an issue, but even so, many of us have the svn for it so it would never actually get lost.

Cough

The aging thing does bother me a bit, a couple of years ago IW was looking (in my opinion) better than some other professionally produced RTS games on the market, especially the Star Wars ones.

keep delaying and it will not. You need to learn a lesson from DNF, get the project out warlord. The ui Gnomre was working on was fine, you don't need to wait for that. Other than that it is just some chicken mech anims, we have some here by zydox, use them and stop making that excuse.

Call it a beta:
Seriously, by the time you finally put it out my small project will have surpassed you. You need to get something out there, label it as a public beta and don't call it finished. Careful use of language is important, if you need me to proof read for you on that I will.

Adopt rapid:
this way you can put out faster hotfixes.

test it against the master build:
it will break. there are some major changes coming, having a new version to switch out really quick would be prudent and really isn't THAT much work.

make the effort to post:
seriously, start posting, the entire team sees you as abandoning, they will abandon you. Your excuse for no return wore thin and is now transparent. I know you see it as truth, I see it as procrastination, you are making excuses. You need to get people helping you, getting people to commit to action requires you being active and pushing to personally get shit done. YOU need to be doing something.

It's a long time coming and I am pretty sure there are enough people here with the skill to help you get it out the door if you don't make stupid demands(like wanting an entirely new ui) people will likely help you finish it off. I know you have more to push out but you need to pinch this one off and start on the next push.

Hey, another article about F/OSS gaming that includes Spring...

Oh wait, Imperial Winter screenshot.

Seriously, the fact that this is one of the major advertised games on the platform and it has never seen a public release is kind of embarrassing.

Please take notice that Imperial Winter forums on the IW website have been closed to new registrations.

This is bad publicity. Please keep the forums open.

Also, as I stated earlier in this thread, PLEASE quit posting negative/sarcastic posts, especially with bad language. Its not professional, and its against the Spring Forums rules. Nobody wants to do anything for anybody who is swearing at them.

I want to help keep a positive, co-operative spirit on this forum.

Smoth, about your post with the picture, you are being absurd. Why shouldn't there be "we want to see progress" posts? I think you scared everyone into not posting for a few weeks (which is bad publicity and also probably bad for progress) for no reason. You say that this forum is full of "advice and suggestion but no will to work". First of all, I see no suggestions on this thread, other than the suggestion to release sooner than planned. Second, aren't suggestions what this thread is for? In fact, all the posts seem to fit exactly with the thread topic of "Imperial Winter - where things stand, and how you can help".

I guess what I'm trying to say is PLEASE keep this thread clean and co-operative. We will go nowhere without some politeness. In my opinion, everyone here has had something valuable to say on this thread, and should keep on posting. Just make sure what you are saying is polite and helpful.

If it were only up to me, I would have just made the svn we put up public long ago, but it's not my decision alone to make. That's my vote, in any case.
