Starcraft is dead, and had as much strategy in it as Diablo could be called an RPG
well W40k was created a few years befor 1990, so it is VERY possible blizzard cud have riped it off but then again who hasnt thought about dudes in suits riping apart hordes of aliens? but there is already a 40k mod in production for spring last time i checked? anyway sc was gud but koreans were too cheap at it....
p.s cud own anyone at N64 sc but then a korean came and stole all my confidence in it away

I can think of a miriad of things a lawyer could do to the project off of the top of my head simply through adding the word unnoficial that could spell doom should blizzard ever try to take action.
If a starcraft mod did surface and blizzard saw it, they would take action to bring down the entire spring project and stop circulation of the engine on the groudns that mroe could create new mdos or a warcraft mod etc. Given the correct representatives we would triumph over blizzard and confien the problem to the starcraft mod. However that situation isnt helped by thgins such as the C&C mod or Warhammer 40k or SWTA/SWS, which blizzard would use to proove that the modding comunity can adn will port copyrighted material fi they can and that they ahve a track record of doing so. This may force other copyright owners to enforce legal rights because under US law if a company knows their itnellectual rights are compromised yet does nothign about ti then their standing in the future is very weak because the defendant says "but you let them do it knowing full well what they where doing" which is a very pursuasive statement in court if prooven.
The onyl way i can think of, that'd get us a starcraft mod without waiting for blizzard to fall on bad times or waiting for their copyrights to expire, would be to create it privately with no publicity, then to distribute ti on completion as widely as possible after disbanding the mod team. At which point there is no definable entity for blizzard to sue, there is no way of controlling the widespread circulation, and blizzard is buggered, but such a thign would be risky, far too risky, and is frought with unforeseen problems.
Or you could emulate the starcraft mod by creating a similair storyline with similair techtree and build tree but different units, while incorporating new thgins in. It couldnt look exactly like starcraft, similair at best. Thus any arguement blizzard would give would be quashed by the "this isn't starcraft its xxxxx, and we own the itnellectual rights not you"

Funny thing is is that Games workshop took blizzard to court over starcraft basically because it rips off the 40k universe so well. I mean even the Protoss is almost exacly like the Eldar. But it was found that starcraft was "inspired" by Warhammer 40k. So if you realy wanted this simply change a few names and your off to the races.melonman wrote:well W40k was created a few years befor 1990, so it is VERY possible blizzard cud have riped it off but then again who hasnt thought about dudes in suits riping apart hordes of aliens? but there is already a 40k mod in production for spring last time i checked? anyway sc was gud but koreans were too cheap at it....

If the SY's are in no way affiliated with the development team of a particular mod how could they shutdown spring aswell?
And do Swede's even give a crap about US law? Cause pirate bay just mocks people when they get threatened.

Please don't make this mod, even though inaccuracy in unit fire and such would make it cool. Spring doesn't have mesh animation yet so your stuck with mechanicle units. Plus we don't need Blizzard sending their "Lawyers" after us with "CEASE AND DESIST" orders handed out by a federal Judge. That alone would probaly kill Spring. Admins lock or Delete this Topic please.
simply make a mod with humans and aliens, don't use the same SC models and then you have your human vs bugs mod. I don't think that someone can deny this.
if you notice that, Zerg are similar to Tyranids that are similar to Aliens (the movie), ecc, ecc.
what you want is to splat hordes of bugs with chainguns and big cannons and there's no need to have a SC mod to do this.
you can use your imagination to create something better
uuuhh, for example,... an arachnid alien race that throws big asteroids against the Earth
