(wiki) [[games]] page with template?

Post by knorke »

I was thinking how the games (http://springrts.com/wiki/Games) could be made better.
ie It is not easy to add new games without fucking up the layout.

So I though maybe something like this:
http://love2d.org/wiki/Category:Games
would work better?
It is automatically generated by some template thing:
http://love2d.org/w/index.php?title=Cat ... ction=edit

Adding new games is as easy as just copy&pasting some template over into the games page. And filling out the fields, for example:

Code: Select all

{{#set:Name=Derp Game}}
{{#set:Homepage=www.powerwank.com}}
{{#set:Author=User:somedudes}}
{{#set:Spring Version=0.82.7.1}}
{{#set:Description=new herp derp balance}}
{{#set:License=steal what you can & run from the nation}}
{{#set:Version=1.35}}
{{#set:Screenshot=File:boom.jpg}}
(of course some better fields would have to be decided)

Nobody would have to worry about accidently breaking the entry of other games by forgetting a | } or something, like it can happen when editing the games page directly.

tl;dr
I tried to copy&paste this:
http://love2d.org/wiki/Category:Games
into spring wiki to make a self updating games page.
good/bad idea?
It did not work anyway :?

hm, i tried myself, couldn't get it run, too. maybe its also a plugin/setting for mediawiki or so?

nice game/video you made for l├Âve :-)

the problems could be also (ati?)-drivers related, as l├Âve seems to use opengl, too.

I think templates are just a normal part of wiki software.
got this to work:
http://springrts.com/wiki/Sandbox

typing

Code: Select all

one million {{km2}}
now results in: one million km┬▓
(and the km┬▓ also gets linked to the wikipedia on it)

will probally have to read the whole template tutorial on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Template) but do not really want to.
...noboby here with experience on wiki stuff?

what problem do you mean? (ive a nvidia card btw)

ah ok.
for another test i stole the "forumlink" template from the l├Âve wiki:
it can be used like this:

Code: Select all

{{forumlink|topic=26023|title=thread about templates}}
works, result here: http://springrts.com/wiki/Sandbox
so i think everything is already installed on this wiki, too.
now just needs somebody with the knowledge.

It needs a (free, open-source) extention:
