Now this is just an idea, might not be do-able, but who knows...
You're flying an aircraft, now I will say one thing before I go further, I can't make it better, all I am capable of is ideas
With that out of the way... Wouldn't it be cool to have the option of using a joystick to fly that hawk, full throttle, at 90 degrees bank, through that gap between the MT's in the enemy base (which would equire some VERY accurate collision spheres/boxes/cylinders/models), or buzz the tanks your ally is sending to back-up the attack? Be all military-like and pull the trigger to launch those missiles that we all love so much. Sure it won't quite be IL2 but it'd still be fun as flying a hawk with a joystick.
[edit] Sorry I shouldn't vote on my own poll but I couldn't resist...
Joystick control for FPS mode.

Physics
The leaving ground bit would be cool, but we'd need a new physics engine for it, it seems that the curent one doesn't support momentum that accurately. Yet.
And let's be honest, how many of the FPS changes ARE necessary? This is for if any of the SY's, or a modder, gets bored and wants to go scripting. If you don't think I know what's important in a game *cough* chocapic *cough*, you're probably right in most cases.
Is for bored scripters.
Not major developement.
