Sooo... apparently the new business model is:

-Find a Nifty Game Made By An Independent Developer
-Throw a Budget at a team to "copy it without copying it"
-Use the phrase "in the tradition of great games such as "Game That's Like the Game We Copied in some Trivial Way" and "Game We Copied" ".
- Profit!

That said... this game doesn't actually look anything like Dwarf Fortess beyond the "it's about dwarves and mining and has 2D tile based graphics"... can't tell if it looks fun... this kind of game needs a demo.

To be perfectly frank when I saw the announcement for the game's release I thought "somebody has copied Dwarf Fortress and made it look pretty and is selling the idea out from under them" then I saw the game and realized it wasn't really at all like DF and thought about posting about it... but then I thought "OMG... it would be hilarious to post a thread with the title "Dwarfs!?" !!??" and couldn't stop myself.

Surely dwarf fortress is dwarfed by this towering offence. Problem is that darw fortress could eat three full gamedevelop teams including oversized budgets for breakfast and still be when its done, because its tremendous in gamedepth.

Dont know how this one guy manages to keep all his stuff in mind.

Why can other people rip of shamelessly and we dont? Oh, yes, they rip it from open source, and we the wild pirats, are fearfully watching our steps on the plank that is the world. Pervreverse World, isnt it?

Srsly, let us at least rip off other open source comunitys. We could steal open office, and call it spring office, and include it- or we rip some linuxinstall, and include.. FLOUR, this is no fun, we are meant to be the bad guys here.

Didn't Tolkien introduce the plurals elves and dwarves (look at that, my spellchecker doesn't like it!) to differentiate himself from the traditional folklore?

I always use Dwarves because "Dwarfs"(plural) sounds like "Dwarf's" (posessive)... wikipedia says it's a Tolkienism:
