A particular point on controlling metal

Post by Forboding Angel »

Just fyi, if you make your patches solid 255, 6 pixels
extractor radius 40
max metal 1

A regular mex will put out 2.0

For a good example look at the foothills maps.

Only reason I'm making this post is it seems that a lot of people are having trouble with controlling metal.

Thanks! very informative for people wishing to make OTA-style metal patches.

bumping this up because ppl seem to be having trouble paying attention to it.

Every damn time I see a map with a 275 mex radius I want to kill someone.

There is no need for that crap. Don't be lazy. If you're going to map, then do it right!

Hang on... whats wrong with a 275 radious?? Surly it depends on how your doing your metal placement... IE TA Classic, or Spring all over style. Admitadly 275 is a little small for Spring style, but theres nothing to stop people usinging it.

there's nothing wrong with having a larger extraction radius than the metal patches. Maybe some people do it to prevent GoW-style blind-bombing on metal patches. Just as long as you can't catch 2 metal patches with one extractor, there shouldn't be anything wrong with that.

ehh, for an example look at the metal map on some maps.

You don't have to do ota style. that's not the point. The point is that many people (including some people on this forum) have no idea how to control metal.

river dale, while not ota style, has good metal control, for example.

I don`t see anything wrong with large radius metal, but personally, I prefer the old ota style, "small patch - small radius" method.

So, Forboding Angel, the problem is "metal control" and not extraction radius, no?

I can't think of anything wrong with an extraction radius of some 200. Of course considering that the metal map is suited for that.

I was using it as a disjointed example, but everyone here takes everything so literally. I give up lol.
