We could also have it send an email upon receiving a new item, so that Neddie (or any other approve-inator) doesn't have to go through all the trouble of checking every day.
imo make it not require approving. i think there are some people who would write stuff but atm it is too complicated/takes too long to appear on front page.
sure, sometimes people might post boring stuff or OT but then moderators can just delete it.
And I'd rather like to read small, not really "news worthy" stuff like cool replay uploaded instead of the same posts from 2010...
Licho, give me a news rss feed that links back to the source article and it's a done deal. Your site looks like it was done without a cms and as a result doesn't have an rss feed (which is why it was never added to the list).
It's worth noting that if you spam the feed (with bs newsposts and stuff about how your dog died, or you got the clap, or how badly it hurts when you pee, or how you took a massive dump into your svn and now you feel emaciated, etc), I will remove you from it (and that goes for anyone). To date that hasn't been an issue yet though.
Edit: Read the rest of the thread, now you get another *Frowny Face* for lack of attention span.
First off, if your news is an rss feed it doesn't have to be approved. Only direct posts on SI have to be approved (though personally I vastly prefer a feed, because then you get traffic to your site too).
Knorke, the only reason your last took forever is because I had gotten rid of the plugin that sends me an email when someone makes a post on it (more plugins = more server memory usage), because there are direct posts on SI... What, once every 3 months?
@licho, I specifically asked you guys for an rss feed to use, but I was told not to use moddb iirc (which makes sense because you would want it to be news from your actual website, not from moddb).
There is a thread lurking around in the depths of general discussion where I was asking for feeds. You guys weren't left out for any other reason than the fact that I simply didn't have anything to syndicate. Also, when I set this up, zk was still a stain on the mattress (in other words, zk wasn't around, it was CA then).
back@everyone: it's worth noting that I do not like the idea of syndicating stuff for *A, as, overall it is a detriment to the rest of us. I don't think I have ever refused to syndicate *A though.
Licho wrote:So if dog dies its not newsworthy but if disk dies it is? I like my dog more tbh..
Read the actual news. It is an update showing that work has been done and detailing what progress has been made. Don't be a douche about it.
^^ This
He made news about something that had happened to his comp but in the same sentence talked about how it affected gundam development.
The point is, if you're AF's blog, the syndication is going to stop quickly. I expect you to have a decent rss feed for your news. Maybe I'm spoiled by Wordpress who has an rss feed for every single category of EVERYTHING, but them's the breaks. Moddb pages are generally a-ok from the getgo because you wouldn't have some idiot on there bitching about his personal life and what good kinds of pot he got the other day, etc.
However, what I was mainly talking about, is spam posting so much that it knocks everyone off the list but you. If that were the case tho, I'd just slow down the rate of syndication for that feed on SI.
None of this has been a problem in the past, and I doubt it will be in the future, just saying, don't try to game the system, cause it will bend you over the table.
Btw, to clarify, some off topic posts on the feed once in a while aren't any big deal. The concern is people that may try to spam the feed so that their stuff is the only thing shown on it. That's not nice nor is it cool in the least. I highly doubt anyone would do that, but I'm just saying it out loud so that it's at least been said.
