idea for game option: apocalypse mode
Set a time limit for game end (everything explodes and all players lose). Big countdown from T-30 minutes?
I was thinking this would stop players porcing for >1hr, but if one side thinks they are losing maybe they'll just hole up and wait.

Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
But then how do you know who wins...?
Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
No One... it would be an all way tie for last place unless someone managed to win within the time limit.Aero wrote:But then how do you know who wins...?
Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
I do not see how this adds any fun?
Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
Well... for one thing you know the maximum amount of time you'll be spending in game from the outset... granted adjustments to game-speed would affect this... and for another noobs would have a lot more opportunity to realize that they need to improve their base building skills.knorke wrote:I do not see how this adds any fun?
Oh wait... you said fun... yeah I don't see how it would be any more "fun" either.
Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
I figured the increasing urgency as time runs out would be exciting. Big countdown before eveything goes nuclear, time running out, must act fast.. thats fun, right?
Even if the time limit is long enough to allow most normal games to proceed unhindered, it could be used to avoid boring open-ended multiplayer tech porc (less boredom = more fun too, right?).

Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
as long as i dont know how it provides any more fun, i have to admit im suprised there is no such game option.
we need game option that makes knorkes lava rise after X minutes :D

Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
It wouldn't add fun in itself, but it would remove non-fun. Referring of course to the pure-economy no-one-attacks stage that happens in most games, and that lasts for the majority of total game time. The ending would be just the same as well, with everything blowing up in a relative instant. Players can make up their own mind about who 'won' on who played the best.
+1 from me (who can argue against a modoption anyway?). But there are definitely more urgent things to be working on.

Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
Isn't it a bit stupid after stalling on your 2 advanced solar eco for 60 minutes that the game ends just when you finally managed to tec2krog? The next step in BADSD gayness, simbase for an hour and skip that annoying part at the end where you actually fire the nukes.
If you only have 60 minutes to play, just leave after that time.
Next spring will have the gamerover command, then you can just doFun fact: Nobody will use that because players want to play these kind of games, I thought that was common knowledge by now.

Code: Select all

gadget:GameFrame (frame)
if (frame == timelimit) then Spring.GameOver() end --game ends, noone wins
end
Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
thats lie, we love to play different games and maps. i just finished playing some nice dsd map
Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
dude, have you seen this dsd dual?
Maybe on this map the time limit should be 2 hours because its bigger.
so epic.

Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
double map size = double time limit ? woowwo gundam games are so epiccccc
Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
And on Darkside you could have 2,5 minute games!
Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
Simbase tec2krog is just as lacking in fun if you get bombed or nuked or whatever with the difference that these events come out of the blue while the player clearly knows the time limit. Perhaps this would encourage more focused planning and coordination as players must adopt a strategy to be played out within the time limit?knorke wrote:Isn't it a bit stupid after stalling on your 2 advanced solar eco for 60 minutes that the game ends just when you finally managed to tec2krog?
By that logic no-one would play anything other than DSD because players want to play DSD. So clearly not a fact. Not that it makes the idea any better.knorke wrote:Fun fact: Nobody will use that because players want to play these kind of games, I thought that was common knowledge by now.
Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
Bomberman 64 had an interesting set of approaches to this mess. Each map had a different fail-state when the time ran out - some maps produced a barrage of asteroids of gradually increasing distribution, some maps had rising water, and some maps had the old fashioned closing-in-at-the-borders approach. The point was the map would gradually get more hostile as time limit occurred.
The lava code from that new lava-flooding map would be helpful for this - the guy with the most fighter planes would win in the end until the lava rose past airplane height.

Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
By what logic exactly? People who play DSD want to play it, why would they play it otherwise? Of course this doesn't stop them from liking other maps too, or totally different people from liking other maps.momfreeek wrote:By that logic no-one would play anything other than DSD because players want to play DSD. But if you don't like DSD now, you probably won't like it with a time limit either. And there's already a kind of customisable time limit - if you're bored just leave the game!

by this logic:Johannes wrote:By what logic exactly? People who play DSD want to play it, why would they play it otherwise?
Not sure why you asked a question as if disagreeing then answered it in agreement.Johannes wrote:Of course this doesn't stop them from liking other maps too, or totally different people from liking other maps.
Thats totally different from a time limit that everyone is playing to.Johannes wrote:there's already a kind of customisable time limit - if you're bored just leave the game!
Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
this would work great if final scoring was determined by the number of active extractors and no other criteria
Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
Then you could just win some ground and porc up which changes the game completely. Not that its a bad idea but I was trying to force players to act without changing the victory conditions.
Re: idea for game option: apocalypse mode
Tec2krog is always lacking in fun yet it is played all the time. How is getting nuked or bombed in BADSD unexcepted? It is a common tactic, probally the same tactic your team was trying to use.Simbase tec2krog is just as lacking in fun if you get bombed or nuked or whatever with the difference that these events come out of the blue while the player clearly knows the time limit.
No, players would just be okay with a draw/tie instead of trying a new tactic/attack and risking to lose. Or they would make even less offensive units as to have even more nukes at 60 minutes. Its that lame.Perhaps this would encourage more focused planning and coordination as players must adopt a strategy to be played out within the time limit?
Anyway, to test it without changing BA you could make a map with such gadget. Testgames on such map might show more aggressive attacking but that will just be because the usual DSD porcers will not join such games.
