A Theory of Moderation
http://blog.stackoverflow.com/2009/05/a ... oderation/
This is an article about the community philosophy Stack Overflow's creators hold. That site and all of its sister site operate under these ideas, and they're wildly successful.
A nice read for anyone, and I'm interested to see how these principles could apply to our community.

interesting approach
Re: A Theory of Moderation
Good idea, we should use this for these forums. I realise we don't have a rep system so lets just use postcount instead

Re: A Theory of Moderation

Re: A Theory of Moderation
We're kind of tied into a system that works based on what the forum/lobby-software is capable of. I've had many similar ideas to what is being discussed here, but PHPBB just doesn't do much of that kind of stuff.
Re: A Theory of Moderation
Im sure you can shove a little JS to insert an up and down vote button and an indicator, linked to a side script. Sure it wouldnt be integrated into phpbb itself, but it would be an indicator

Re: A Theory of Moderation
karma system here would be trolled superhard

Re: A Theory of Moderation
truthfully, I used to have as much negative karma as postive. Often just 2-3 positive above negative but probably the highest score for that community.

Wouldn't work here, most of the most well known and experienced content creators are raving lunatics like myself
Re: A Theory of Moderation
Any sane approach is phailing hard when meeting the insane rand-generator that is the heads of artists. Imagine a overdramatic borderlinen Theateractor and a logic, Mr.Spock Programmer meeting on a Party. This cant end well, so the only logic - is apharteid of minds (ignorelist/diffrent sub-groups/smurfsurfin) and have a neutral group, that watches that nobody in the apezoe climbs over its ragecagerods.
