Not comparable because one was a complete out of the blue up your ass in the middle of the night surprise, and the others were fore-warnings to gtfo.
Re: Grammatically incorrect and annoying topicÔÇ¢ [Mature Content]
Right.. cause the difference isn't the civilian population being killed, its that the civilians were warned? Thats worth mentioning?
But nothing need be said about the difference between attacking a remote military base and nuking a civilian city?Forboding Angel wrote:War sucks. Anyone who thinks differently IS a Fucking moron. If your evil, and the current king of the hill, everybody knows about your crime. If you are down the hill, nobody gives a dime. Russia and Germany killed there own people like it was a fashionwave, Ruanda was a slaughterhouse, congo was worser, Mao starved his millions - history is murderous if you open the cover of one book.
Although, youve got to admit, that in recent history, the guy with the most power, seems realtivly handicapped when it comes to massmurdering. A village? Wow, thats a nice decline. Consider that a generation before, whole citys were eradicated, starved to death.
They do not work 100% but you ve got to admit, the checks & brakes for political supported violence have some grip. They even didnt built large scale KZ after 9/11 and Coca smuggling from southamerigo didnt lead to nuclear warfare.

Oh c'mon you must know that North Korea is not a serious threat to anyone. All their threats of building nukes is just a way of asking for more humanitarian aid for their poor country. They basically have no export, no industry, no nothing and rely on foreign aid to survive. The recent antagonizing on the south was just the result of a spoiled brat assuming power and wanting to show who's in charge there. They are also locked down by China who would never let anyone hurt their biggest trading partner. The biggest threat North Korea poses to the US is that of a rising international welfare bill.KaiserJ wrote:i don't think i saw some of this mentioned; i'll just jot a few things that i remember from history class and various readings
- hirohito said that the citizens of japan would fight to the death to defend their land. this meant that many more allied soldiers would have to die attacking and occupying the island, not to mention civilian and military losses on the japanese side.
- if the allies landed in japan, it would probably have ended up wrecking the entire area, not just two cities. japan was able to rebound faster (in terms of economy and manufacture) than they would have been were the entire country to be flattened.
- there were a lot of allied POWs in japan, by quickly ending the war their lives were probably spared as well (of deaths from poor conditions, starvation etc)
what would the world be like if japan had been pushed back to being a third world country? i'd think it would be likely that it would at this point be in the hands of china or north korea. ATM its the USA's strongest military ally in the area, and a very strong financial one too.
all of these "remember pearl harbor" people on facebook should instead be saying "thank-you japan for giving us a buffer zone between north korea and our country"
Actually it was Charles Portal who came up with the strategy of area bombing German cities rather than military installations. Churchill only gave his grudging approval to it because it worked, but ended it in March of 1945 explaining "It seems to me that the moment has come when the question of bombing of German cities simply for the sake of increasing the terror, should be reviewed. Otherwise we shall come into control of an utterly ruined land."zwzsg wrote:Actually it was the other way around. Churchill purposefully bombed german cities, so that Hitler would be angered and would want to send his bombers on english cities, thus diverting them from british airports, thus letting the RAF rebuild and win the battle of england.Gota wrote:Dresden was pay back for german bombings of british cities,it was just and moral.

nowadays, sure... but what if the USA had totally wiped out japan and then just left it to fend for itself after WW2? am i wrong to assume that japan would at this point be property either of a) unified korea b) russia or c) china? and would any of these governments put japan in a better position to be an ally of the USA? probably not (but of course this is all speculative)Oh c'mon you must know that North Korea is not a serious threat to anyone. although on the other hand, most north korean hatred towards the USA seems to stem from the korean war, which probably wouldn't have happened at all if not for the fact that the USA was an ally of countries in the neighbourhood and were the ones to divide korea in two in the first place after conquering japan

And bullshit to say it was either nukes or "totally wiping out Japan"... They were already considering surrender but wanted better terms. From a purely military POV the nuking makes a lot of sense, you got peace (with the terms you wanted) before soviets got too involved, got to show off your bomb, didn't have to use further resources into war. But it's pretty weird to say that it was somehow the only morally sensible option you had.
It wouldn't have been cost effective. Better for them to have strong and loyal allies in Europe than trying to manage a mess like that.Gota wrote:Imagine if britain and the USA would have devided western europe?I mena actually anexed the territories for themselves...
Re: Grammatically incorrect and annoying topicÔÇ¢ [Mature Content]
i definitely don't agree morally with nuking civilians; i just meant that i always figured that "cost effectiveness" was the reasoning behind the bombing

No, but if you claim that they are acting like Nazis I'm pretty sure that automatically eliminates any possibility of productive discussion.1v0ry_k1ng wrote:cant we all just agree that america is satan and move on?
