You were the one justifying american actions. Disagreeing with you implies nothing about everyone else. No-one tried to justify their atrocities. We are talking about a war started by the nazi's ffs. How would you have stopped the japanese? sang and held hands? so easy to criticize so hard to actually produce a solution.momfreeek wrote:You were the one justifying american actions. Re: Grammatically incorrect and annoying topicÔÇ¢ [Mature Content]
A necessary evil? Regardless of the strategy it was an awful thing. War brings out the worst in everyone and there is no need to shine such an act in a noble light.
Re: Grammatically incorrect and annoying topicÔÇ¢ [Mature Content]
I never said it was noble. You lot are so hopped up thinking every american thinks wwII was some sort of glorious parade where we roll in nuked japan and saved the world. Such a shallow and bigoted view of any country is unacceptable.
Any american worth anything hell any human being worth anything will tell you war is horrible. No one wants to go to war but it has to be done because people not americans, people make the same stupid mistakes over and over again.
War is ugly business and wining one is not like wining a game, but it cannot be done without having civilian casualties. You can say what you want but the rape, torture and murder campaigns acted on by the japanese were bullshit. That shit sleksa posted about the fucking Abu-ghraib shit was heaven compared to what the japanese were doing.
you have to recognize that the people the allies were fighting had a very different view of things and they were not going to just surrender and even if we defeated them in a standard battle if such a thing exists it would have been brutal, bloody and odds are most of them would have killed themselves anyway. Feel free to ignore that point. It was a suck thing to have to do but it had to be done.
"nuking their fleet" is also a bullshit answer. Like their fleet was all in once place. You win a war by destroying the enemy's capability to be a war machine. That war machine is partly made of civilians who are there to support and manufacture for the war effort. You want me to apologize for the nukes or whatever? why? Someone had to do it.

I think everyone else sees the ambiguity of defending their atrocities and laces the explanation with remorse and regret. Those involved with creating and dropping the bombs weren't so stoic as you.smoth wrote:I never said it was noble. What? please clarify what you are saying.
Re: Grammatically incorrect and annoying topicÔÇ¢ [Mature Content]
compare:
"We had to do it"
"We had to do it. But, yes it was an awful thing."

Re: Grammatically incorrect and annoying topicÔÇ¢ [Mature Content]
What does this have to do with you seeing me as more stoic than the creators of the atomic bomb? What are you saying I need to lace my posts with the obvious "war is hell" etc crap so YOU feel that I show enough remorse?
Re: Grammatically incorrect and annoying topicÔÇ¢ [Mature Content]
You complained about how you were seen. What is seen is what you show.
Re: Grammatically incorrect and annoying topicÔÇ¢ [Mature Content]
I complain about the closed minded perception people have of americans as though we are some hive mind or something.
I should not have to say the war was terrible. that is like saying the BLUE sky is beautiful or this green zaku 2 has a monoeye.
we all know it. I should not have to say it.

Fark I am related to the crusaders who raped and pillaged during medieval times.
Wait that still provokes hatred from some extremist Islamic groups.

Specifically, we were talking about nuclear bombs obliterating civilian populaces.smoth wrote:I complain about the closed minded perception people have of americans as though we are some hive mind or something.

Sure, it "had" to be done, glad that US knew how it is and used the most humane option available to end the war, would nuke again. There's nothing to apologize when you're the winner.
Anyway, interesting how just showing some silly bigots from US brings the discussion into this shit. US hivemind is butthurt

Re: Grammatically incorrect and annoying topicÔÇ¢ [Mature Content]
i don't think i saw some of this mentioned; i'll just jot a few things that i remember from history class and various readings
- hirohito said that the citizens of japan would fight to the death to defend their land. this meant that many more allied soldiers would have to die attacking and occupying the island, not to mention civilian and military losses on the japanese side.
- if the allies landed in japan, it would probably have ended up wrecking the entire area, not just two cities. japan was able to rebound faster (in terms of economy and manufacture) than they would have been were the entire country to be flattened.
- there were a lot of allied POWs in japan, by quickly ending the war their lives were probably spared as well (of deaths from poor conditions, starvation etc)
what would the world be like if japan had been pushed back to being a third world country? i'd think it would be likely that it would at this point be in the hands of china or north korea. ATM its the USA's strongest military ally in the area, and a very strong financial one too.
all of these "remember pearl harbor" people on facebook should instead be saying "thank-you japan for giving us a buffer zone between north korea and our country"

I agree it is shitty for those guys to say that bullshit about pearl harbor.
I really cannot believe them.

Re: Grammatically incorrect and annoying topicÔÇ¢
Actually it was the other way around. Churchill purposefully bombed german cities, so that Hitler would be angered and would want to send his bombers on english cities, thus diverting them from british airports, thus letting the RAF rebuild and win the battle of england.Gota wrote:Dresden was pay back for german bombings of british cities,it was just and moral.

Eurofags are rather irritating with the way that they like to wrap themselves in their own self righteousness. In this case I'm singling out momfreek. War sucks. Anyone who thinks differently IS a Fucking moron. You don't have do be a damn genius to take that as a matter of common sense and it should not be necessary to lace our posts with shit that is obvious.

Re: Grammatically incorrect and annoying topicÔÇ¢ [Mature Content]
The point of using the nuclear weapons on civilians targets (from the U.S. strategic point of view) was not just to end the war, but to demonstrate that the U.S. was a nuclear power and is willing to go as far as using nuclear weapons on cities if we found it would secure a victory. This message was as much going to Russia as it was to Japan, and it set the stage for the age of the cold war.

You are forgetting that before Hiroshima, nobody knew what "nuclear" mean!bobthedinosaur wrote:willing to go as far as using nuclear weapons
It is only after a city was razed by a single bomb that Nuclear weapon grew the aura they have today in public opinion. But before, nobody would have been impressed by knowing a country had nuclear power, cause nobody knew what nuclear power was capable of!
Sure, a few spies and leaders might have have heard about some secret military research, but I mean, in the people's mind!
